    Donnybrook Softies

Up early this morning for a quick lash at the flathead, putting in at Donnybrook at first light.
With a couple of hours of ebb tide up my sleeve, I worked my way up the passage, fishing the likely looking drains and creek mouths, where the lizards like to wait for bait fish as they leave the drying banks.
There were plenty of rats, as usual, and I had to wait until I reached never fail spot X to snare a keeper. An hour of quality flathead fishing then followed, with 5 fish kept for the familly and a heap of fish between 30 and 50cm released.
Gave my bream spot a go with some gulps once the flood tide started, but all I could catch were more rat lizards, so I left them to it
I was pleasantly suprised at the lack of a big girl in the mix, maybe a little to early in the passage yet.
Plastics today were 80mm squidgy fish in black gold, and 2" gulps in pumpkin seed for the bream, and I was useing the Berkley spray on scent, which I think did make a differance, even if only to hide the smell of my hands on the sp.
    Couple of piccys to follow
    Regards
    Brian

Cheers for the comments on the piccys all.
I do try to get a good shot, but it is hard when most times I fish by my self.
Looking forward to posting some shots of slapper whiting in the next couple of months, and if all goes to plan, my first legal jack.
    Regards

Nice catch of fish there Brian.
I was up that way myself this morning but Only got one flattie of keepable size.
I'll have to get a leccy motor I'm guessing cos I only really get a couple shots at drains like that as I am drifting past.
    Cheers.

    Hi MF,
did you put in at Donnybrook and head upstream, had a look out the window early this morning and it looked a bit windy.

I brought a 55lb Minn Kota this year after fishing on a mates boat, and the difference it has made to the catch rate when chaseing flathead is un believable.
    Absolutely money well spent.
I have been useing it lately out the front of Margate on the shallow reefs trying to sneak up on a snapper, so far no luck.
Was thinking about a trip up to Awoonga in October, and I reckon it will really shine up there. Fished the Dam last year without an electric and struggled with the wind most days when casting.
    Regards
    Brian
