My last couple of trips to st helena have seen plenty of tailor up to 45cm with the average being arond 33cm. Both times they came on the chew for about half an hour before sunset, chopping through bait on the surface all around the boat and freely taking all presentations - slugs, pillies, squid strips. The larger fish were taking my baits from mid-water intended for squire.
Go just before sunset, put a feed in the esky and then keep a couple for fresh bait through the night.
plenty of tailor on the eastern reef of mud island on monday morning
flasher,
out from Wello 2 weekends ago, could n't stop catching the lil' bar-stewards!
Anything small and shiny works, 5-10g Halco spoons and b/mart (know what I mean ) have cheap spoons (5 for $10).
kmart have a 20% off tackle and 25% off rods, reels & rode/reel combo's- I've just loaded up...
Little bugger in the photo took a mouthful of damp towel into drink when he went back... >

My face that close up scares small children and wimmin...
Try Scarborough reef at dawn.
I caught a 1.8kg (4 lb in the old money) tailor well up Nundah Creek this week on a live herring while live-baiting for flathead. Big surprise, although small ones can often be a nuisance knocking the live baits about. A more reliable option would be outside the Woody Point to Scott's Point reefs around dawn. Surface baits could pick up tailor and bottom baits could find a few squire, although they've been a bit hit and miss lately
Cheers Freeeedom
Poppers do pretty well for tailor
