    Pioneer River

I knocked off work at lunchtime today and decided to see what the pioneer river had to offer. I drifted along the rockwalls throwing a few different plastics but to no avail. i ended up down towards the mouth of the river then saw several fish smashing the surfacein the eddies. i drifted past these eddies a few times once again no hookups.

plan b: anchor up continue to throw plastics. this time i let the saltwater glass minnow hang in the current. next minute zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i was on... to something and after a short run i had it near the boat. the fish has run again but this time some aerial work and due to my inexperience i have no pics for you.

what i can tell you is this fish was silver in colour and had a helluva big mouth.so i can only imagine this may have well been my first barra. what do you guys think?

the tide is very different to brissy up here..5m tide this arvo

Was it really skinny with grey spots down the lateral line? Could have been a Queenfish, very acrobatic creatures and great fun on light tackle. Caught many of them in the Pioneer but never caught a barra in the Pioneer.

I love it when I get to go home and fish the Pioneer on my holidays. So many great memories.

Certainly more likely a barra rather than Queenie.Queenies don't have the big mouth. Any Jew around that way?

    I didn't see any spots.

Whether it was a queeny or a barra it doesn't really matter.
I would've liked it to be a barra though. Better luck next time.
I went out for a fish after work. The plans were for c&r to see what was in the river. Will be going out tomorrow - forecast is winds to 10kn in the morn.

Richie - The Pioneer river runs thru mackay.
