Sunday On the Reefs, Rain Lightning and Shine

    G'day
Well, I've been a bit slack with the report this time. Just how life is

Headed out of wello point at about 4am on sunday..... really really wanted to go to mud and try these new plastics I picked up off of fooggy but that wasn't to be with the seabreeze and bureau observations. Not in my little 12' tinny anyway.

Ended up heading over to green island to fish the reef shelf and drift whilst there was a lightning storm over moreton that was heading south. There were a few shows on the sounder, but nothing specatcular. I now believe green totally shuts down on a low tide, and I have confirmed that.

Drifted green with the pillie on the floater and chucking all sorts of plastics for the result of a mongrel pike eating through my javallon . As soon as I got home in went the stinger hooks At green I only managed a squire that went just under and after the sun came up, I headed south to huybers to search for some new ground there

In at huybers the same tactics were deployed with a few shows evident, two more undersize squire came aboard thanks to the plastics.

As I drifted the floater with the ganged up WA pillie went off. Once to a mackeral of just under 500mm (threw back as I couldnt be bothered with it) and my first mongrel catfish for the bay reefs. I was disgusted looking at that ugly mug.

Now, my first hit to my baitrunner was a very nice one. Took like really well and then.....!!! Bricked me!. Couldn't believe it. Did a similar few drifts and by this time the wind that was 10-12kts had dropped to about 3kts, and then the rain started. Took another few hits on that floaters, one of wich threw the hooks and then I ran out of pillies. Decided after that to rig up a 6'' bait swimmer gulp in place of the WA pillie. These little things surprised me as It was the first time I had used plastics as a sit and wait bait. They went off to say the least with some nice hits and runs, good hookup and another bricking. Winds got back up to about 15kts by now and a bit of a sea. Had a few more drifts but nothing came of it.

The water temperature is up at 19degrese now, so the macks are making a show and summer is definatly here. Water clarity was down due to the recent rains, but that is a good thing.

    Hey Dave,

How did you set up the stingers in the Javallons. Foggy showed me the trick with the braid through the body sections. I got 2 decent squire at Redcliffe early Sunday morning 45 and 60cm on the 110's in watermelon with the stingers improving the hook up rate and decreasing the tale loss equasion.

    Good luck

There was a good lightning show on Sunday morning. I watched it from shore though. I could see the rain moving slowly in and was home by the time it hit.

    Snapattack

Have a look at the Gamakatsu twin x hooks, they make awesome stingers and can be used straight out of the packet

    Cheers Rod

    G'day
Snapperm8, no fish photo's, not worth it mate

I've done the same as foggy in regards to the stinger setup.....

Rod, thanks for the tip on that style of hook. I just used some 2/0 gamagatsu hooks. They are the o'shaugnessey pattern.
