Howdy Folks, Steven, Jim and I set off from Raby Bay Ramp at 5-45am to try our luck using Steve:s new secret weapon.
This stealth fishing sure is great.
Steven recently purchased a bow mount Minn Kota and today we had an oppertunity to put it through its paces.
First location and the electric went to work.
The breeze was s/w at 10 knots and we started to pull a few under size squire before i picked up the 1st keeper at 40cms.
The tide was full at 6am and it went quiet around this time so we decided to drift the reef from Ormiston all the way to the Huybers using the Kota to keep us on track.
Plenty of small squire and Tailor with the odd GRINNER and then as we entered the 2 metre shallows the bigger squire hit the plastics.
Best fish went to Steve and measured 47cms followed by a 45cms minutes latter.
The showers started accross the bay and the fish saw the overcast time to feed up in the shallow water but when the full sunshine appeared they went deeper again.
Wello is just starting to fire now after a slow last few months and the water seems to be not quite as clear.
I CAN'T WAIT TILL THE GRASSIES SHOW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the top day Steve it was awsome fishing in stealth mode for a change.
Cheers Brent
Just a quick question for Steve... how did you mount the leccy onto your boat? and where did you fit the controls?...I have a 5m fibreglass cuddy cab - would love to go stealth - but dont know how to go about it - probably would'nt push my heavy beast anyway...
Good work guys - made a pretty ordinary day look alright!! and thanks for the tips about the shallows - I learn a lot just from seeing what other fishos do - so thanks!! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
Today was a very good day Thanks Jim and Brent for coming ride it was one of those very enjoyable days. The new electric did very well and would have gotten about 7 hours out of the battery and still had more grunt in it when we finished. Brent lost a few very good fish today fish might have been gut hooked. Home by 4:30pm with the boat cleand a very short time later. The Battery is now on charge ready for the next trip.
Its a must to get a high amp hour battery with a good charger. I have a 20amp charger which is a commercial switch mode charger used for high current battery banks. Here is a Web link that might help http://www.powersaver.com.au/smartchargers.htm
Adam i have a mate who owns a 625 cruise craft and he has a transom mounted 65lb thrust minn kota powered by 2/ 12 volt deep cycles.
Pushes the 625 around no problem at all.
The thing about bow mounts is you need to have the bow close to the water or you will be running thin air...lol
I may be wrong but i don't think the leccy shafts come in longer lenghts.
Cheers Brent
Impressive! I'm interested in how the 625 cruisecraft uses an electirc. I've always been a bit hewitant to try one out on mine (5.8m) but maybe wsorth another look!
Thanks Brent, that would be really useful. I wont be able to log in for a couplke of weeks from next weekend, so are you able to pn the photos ? If its not a hassle - thanks.
