    Mac tuna on 6lb

Hi all just found your site and really like what i see, anyway i do a lot of soft plastic fishing and wanted to share a catch i made on exhibition wednesday at mud island, was fishing with 7ft2 2-4kg dropshot rod with 1500 symetre spooled with 6lb crystal fireline with a 3 inch berkley minnow and was hit by a train of a fish, was nearly spooled in seconds and managed to start motor and had girlfriend drive and chase fish, anyway after a chase of over 500 metres i landed a mac tuna of 81cm, it was truly a catch to remember on 6 lb line.

Hey Alleycat welcome to the site - and nice fish.

Just an observation... I realise its your GF in the photo but on initial view - it was looking like your GF caught the fish - then taking into account your "handle" / username... Alleycat seemed like a female persona.... so that may explain the confusion... quite funny really

But welcome to the site and hope to see a lot of you around - Tuna on a 1500 size reel is a little under gunned IMO - so good job getting it - and congrats go to your girl for keeping a cool head while the chase was on, many would have gone to jelly, panicked and lost it for you.

Yeah thanks guys, drag was singing alright, and just a thought on gear! i have a symetre and a stradic 1000 and think the symetre is way better suited to the tighter drag for this type of fishing, i love my stradic but it doesnt handle the real tight drag for squire, tuna ect, and just wondering where you guys fish at mud? ive found lots of broken ground on eastern side and northern side, just wondering where the best spots are for squire.?

    Alleycat,

    Outstanding fishing on ultralight gear!

Sounds like you are in the right areas for squire - sometimes they're in shallow and sometimes out wider in 10 metres. Just get some good drifts going and work a few depths until you find them.

As for exact spots you may find it hard to get people to disclose that sort of info!

Sorry champ. But same same as Adamy. It looked like you were the one holding the fish. Apologies if any offence was taken. Great looking fish all the same.
    Kepp the posts coming.

Those mac tuna go hard on any gear so I solute you for getting it in on the gear you had. Well done. Welcome to the site as well. I am sure you are going to fit right in and have loads of fun. Look forward to seeing more posts in the future.
