Mate, you'd be lucky to see me with a camera in my hands after one of those came aboard, very nice squire.
It seems like this wind has been blowing for the last billion days or so - at least every time I try to go out the wind gets there before me - so with Seabreeze predicting a short lull, and with a morning high at about 8am, it looked like a good time to hit Wello with a placcy mission again.
I was going to hit it alone but at the last minute I called fellow Ausfisher and good friend GES (George) and he agreed to drop what he was doing and come out - didnt have to twist his arm too much
We launched at the Wello ramp at around 4.15am and hit Hybers a short while later, it was a little lumpy from some residual swell on the way out but quite bearable and with the overcast conditions, we were quite hopeful. Unfortunately the squire didnt want to play the game - we got monstered by a million pike who chewed up the gulps like they were lollies - it was starting to get expensive... Finally after yet another placcy change, I threw upstream and right into the waiting mouth of a squire... Hooray... not a monster but a nice pansize specimen at around 48cms which made a very good account for itself on the light gear.
A short while later and George is on too - this time he was using a 4"pumpkinseed Berkley stick bait, this one went 42cms - the next drift - in about the same place I found another which rubbed me off against some rough bottom... Bugger!
And that was about it for the morning, we tried some other spots up near St Helena and green - dropped a just under or just over legal squire due to knot failure while I was trying to lift in into the boat - felt like an rank amateur - what a dumb mistake to make!! also got busted up by a small school of macks who must be running around with scissors - cause the line was cut a long way up the trace.
Also talking about Macks - George caught a small pike who came up to the surface VERY quickly followed by some huge water displacement and something quite big (which we guessed was a mack - 6KGplus ) took an awfully big swipe at the poor little pike - who seemed to be very glad to get in the boat... it almost ran across the water to jump in .
Anyway... not a big day - but it was great to get out and at least we didnt go home empty handed
Just the 1 pic - George was too camera shy

Hey well done Adam. I am getting so bad an urge to get out there I am going to go crazy and be institutionalized if I don't do something about it. Nice to see you are still getting out there and getting a feed without being outdone by those kids of yours.

Great story mate!
Good to see that there are still a few squire around.

Well done adam, i was out at green today, put in about 4.40 am and yep it was bumpy alright, i was in 4.1mtr dory, anyway my score was 2 little squire around 30cm and a few grinners and pike, thats twice green has failed for me so i might go back to peel.
Nice fish Adamy. Well done!!
I was going to use the same window of opportunity myself today at Green but got lazy at the last minute after a big day out on a shopping excursion with wife and daughter yesterday.
Anyway, from your report about the conditions and Alleycat about his lack of luck at Green, I am probably happy enough that I did not go.
Maybe it is time to think about the summer species.
I am a bit jealous of your nice squire though.
Hi Guys...
Charle and Alleycat.. We headed to Green too (Wello side) - but it just didnt look "fishy" so moved to St Helena -Which side of green do you normally fish? - I'm yet to nail a decent fish there - although I do see them lined up at anchor on the Eastern side (on the way to St Helena)... but bugger me if I know whats going on there - although I have heard they do OK for schoolies.
Alleycat - Peel was just too inconsistent for me - too many trips; too many times I've come away fishless. I have never yet come away fishless from Wello - always something half decent to show the wife I can actually catch fish without her
Pitsta (Mark) Saturday isnt looking good according to seabreeze - although late arvo MAY be the go - whats your plan?? Although the wife may have me corralled helping her (but maybe if she gets it all done.... pm me your details - if I can come out and play I'll let you know
Droo... yeh mate I feel your pain Especially since you turned me down last Saturday so you could help your bro and then he didnt even get the trailer... oh well "stuff" happens
Bring on Summer and the pelagics!!!
Adam
Nice squire there adamy. You would have lost alot more than plakkies if that mac got a hold of your swimming pike!
Well done mate and good report. 3 fish aint too bad.
Richie
HMMM well i would have thought the eastern slopes of green IE from say 17 ft back up to 8ft on the drift would have been ideal for squire ect but it doesnt seem to be like that, and peel? hm the other week i had 9 squire out of 10 casts first up, lots of small stuff like rest of bay but good fun anyway, usually get a few legal but 49cm is my best there in a fair few trips./
Tell me about it Adam. I don't think anyone could approach me all weekend because I had a severe attack of the grumps because I could have gone fishing with you. Such a waste but you are so right. Stuff happens and indeed it did. There will be other times.Originally Posted by Adamy

Great fish Adam, Good old wello produces the fish again
I haven't been out for a week or so and I am climbing the walls
I was hoping for a trip this weekend but the seabreez forecast and rain looks like I won't be going > > >
Peter
That's it! I've just GOT to get the boat out this weekend - regardless of the weather forecast!!
Great report!
Well Well Well! See what happens when you try and sneak a trip without me?!?!?! No threadie killers, no Snapps! You should have made the trip over late last night - would have been worth it!
Nonetheless, you went home with something which is always better than nothing huh!!
Boy, bring on next FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Pete (G/W) reckons he's climbing walls, i'm stuck to the ceiling with my tongue... (the mind boggles!)!!
Take Care T
Hi T1, just make sure you have someone take a pic of that. Some things rate as a "must see" and you stuck to the ceiling would be just a good example of it.Originally Posted by T1
