    sand crabs galore

Went Sand crabbing Saturday, left Rudy maas at 2am headed for
deanbilla bay along north straddie. Conditions where 10kts north
and dropped pots in 3.30am.(8 pots)
first lift. 15 crabs, 2nd lift 12 crabs, 3rd lift 11 crabs, 4th lift 8 crabs. In between we chased a few squid on jigs and caught 6 for
    the morning.
Then went around the top of macleay to the iron stem for 2 lifts and caught another 12 crabs.
At this stage we had a good feed and our refreshments where running out so time to hit the ramp.
Gees.. i hate living in s/e Qld and being forced to eat seafood!!!

Mate! That is a sh!tload of crabs!

Were they all keepers? Were you using dillies or pots?

Sorry about all the questions, but with the Uni year drawing to a close I am chomping at the bit and can't wait to get amongst it.

    Cheers,

    Re: sand crabs galore

i was using dillies as i find that you catch more than if you use
collapsables..also thekiller bait to use are whiting frames.
collapsables are easier to manage but less effective

Hey whitingkiller great effort, are you sure you were at Deanbilla bay cause thats a long way from Rudy maas then back down to Macleay.

Either way a damn good catch for the morning

liltuffy - yes mate, left from Rudy maas's, takes about 30 mins to
get there but in this time we make up our baits and start putting
the biats into the first couple of dillies, so when we get to the spot
we slow to just off the plane and drop to dillies in.
sandcrabbing is all about making the most of just on dawn until
about 8am, so you don't want to be wasting time bailting your pots
where you get to your destination.my boat is a 16ft centreconsole
with yellow clears all around it with a 70hp Johnson.
if you have ever fished the pin you would have seen it.
motor is 89 model and runs on the smell of an oily rag. this trip
we used just over 30 litres of fuel, considering we launched at 3am
and returned to ramp at 11.30am
