Hi guys, I have learned much from the forum to date so here goes for my first post.
I know you guys must get millions of these threads, so in an attempt to prevent any flaming, I have done my fair share of research and only need some feedback on what I have learned so far
SO, just got a few questions for the experts on some shore based fishing at the lake (as we have no boat yet). With a license, we should be able to fish here right ?
Looking to catch the usual bream, flathead etc. which are known to be fished around the lake so I just want to get a little more information before I go so I can have an OK strike rate.
If you could just confirm or even add to my list of findings, that would be great:
Tide - 1-2 hrs before high tide to 1-2 hrs after high tide (??). Also does the tide really affect the lake that much ?
Plan to do during th evening/night
Wind - calm
Bait - pilchard, prawns, chick gut (??) or light soft plastic lures
Burley - bread etc.
Are we on the right track ? We are all use spinning rod/reels 2-4 kilo if that helps.

HI stlyo mate i use to go to Narrabeen boys high and fished both Pittwater and the lakes some 25 - 30 yrs ago there are a number of places to fish down there some more than other
ok if the island is still there near the bridge and shopping centre and where the old ice skating ring is a great place for Bream, flathead and whiting but you can also come back up to the mouth of the river system where the creek from Wheeler hgts meets the lakes there are some great spots in and around there
or head back to the mouth of the beach area use to be a lot of flathead and bream pulled from there along with some nice Jewies, Talior and salmon, or fish from the rock of the old sea pool sea N/E side fish calm seas only was another great spot for most species
as i do not use Sp's and use only Bait try 1/2 pillies, Frog mouths or White Bait if you can catch some live poddy's is even better for your flathead around the island use to be plenty of poddy mullet in the lakes up to 3 - 6in's
for your bream night fishing cast under the bridge or around the island Mullet fillets choke gut or mullet gut have always worked well in these spots

Try using light lines 2-3kg and smaller hooks esp. for bream.I never use sinkers in still water and find fresh soft bread moulded around the hook to be a very effective method .Most bream " play" with the bait a couple of times before committing.The take can be quite savage at times so hold the rod!!!
