Potts Point Sunday Morning
Well this has been a year of firsts.
In January I bought my first boat (3.95m tinnie with 15hp 4 stroke Honda), fished Moreton Bay and Logan River all year and caught my first mackeral, bronze whaler, bull shark, river jew, estuary cod, wobbegong and snapper. Went to Monduran and caught my first ever bass (46cm) - still no barra - and yesterday went out to Potts Point on my own. Not my first trip there but my first time out on my own without a deckie - usually my 14 year old son (who was not available).
An early arrival at Victoria Point boat ramp saw only me and one other putting our boats in. Unbelieveable start! In a lively northerley wind I headed to the point and 15 minutes later had settled at my usual hole. I was not anticipating much action because of all of the recent reports of poor fishing when a northerly blows.
In four hours I caught over 40 squire (largest went 34cm), one shovelnose and a small sole. All were released unharmed. Got bitten off 5 times and lost a thumping snapper at the side of the boat as I tried to lift him in (where was my deckie with the net?). In the end I ran out of bait. Two mullet fillets, a bag of squid, a dozen pillies and a bag of blue bait all gone!
I also lost a couple of good fish and missed about ten good hits because I was using three rods but only had two hands! I was so busy I never got my berley bucket in the water and I forgot to put on sunscreen (ouch!).
Saw heaps of turtles, four dugong and one dolphin. Only one other boat at the point all morning. Where was everybody? I soon found out.
Gave it away at 10.00am and headed back to the boat ramp. Huge queues! Every man and his dog were trying to get their boats in the water and about 10 of us were trying to get out! I finally got out of the water at 11.00am (!) and home by 11.15am.
What a great morning. Sorry no pics as I was too busy to take any!
I'll be back there in a couple of weeks for sure!

My favourite hole is about 50m from the red beacon in line with the next green beacon heading west. This spot never fails to produce on the incoming tide.
Fresh bait is important too. I have not had any success there at all with SPs.
Have fished Iron Stem but only for small bream and squire.
