When Two rods is too busy

    Hi All,,

After having had such a long wait to wet a line, and spending time getting the new trailer set up, Poodroo and I finally managed to dunk the new trailer for the 1st time. Everything went extreemly easily, but there was one thing I forgot - yes my mental check list had failed me again. > After purchasing the right trailer lock to bolt the trailer to the car, we were half way between Green and St Helena when I remembered. THE LOCK!! I had completely forgotten to put it on. That's what happens when a new item is added to your routine!! I should have put it on my "Check List"

Poor 'ol poodroo was so disappointed, I turned around and headed back to Manly, which cost us about 20min round trip. I can't bear the thought of some opportunistic thief taking off with the new trailer, and as much as we were rushing to get to our favourite grounds at Mud, I had to turn around.

So you can imagine how relieved we were to finally start fishing

1st we thought we had another poor weather forcast, it was a little breezy early, but expecting a tide change soon after we got there. Said a quick Hello on the radio to Foggy, contemplated a trip over to his position after he announced his GPS spot over the 27Mhz Radio How generous you are Foggy!! But I had no pen to scribble anything down, and the tide was about to make, giving Foggy some excuses why we elected to stay put at Mud for a while. Good decision!!!! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

As we were hoping the wind started to drop with the change of tide, and were were about to enjoy another golden glass out that Moreton bay sometimes offers us!!

Drifting....... Drifting...... Ocassional smaller fish, a few whip tails....... More plastics........ More plastics........ More plastics......... This is getting expensive!!! We were getting a pile of Monstered plastics that were no good anymore, thrown in one heap at the back of the boat.

Then it all happened within about a half an hour. Are you on AGAIN!! Yep! Oh No, my other rod is going off too, can you pull that one in Poodroo?? [smiley=helpa.gif]

Ah, no I can't, I'm kinda busy over this side of the boat too!! I had to land my own fish!! Rod in one hand, net in the other, 2nd rod buckled over in the rod holder. Poodroo was trying his hardest to copy me, but my side of the boat was bringing in the keepers, and his side was the front door to the Nursery

Marlin Mike calls me on channel 91, and after a brief discussion, I told him where we were getting the fish. How long does it take to get from the carpark over to us? Poodroo and I were keeping an eye out, then saw a centre console moving across the bay at WARP SPEED! Here comes a boat straight for us, I hope you keep your revs below 13,000rpm Mike!! He said his sounder was broken, but the truth is that it is still trying to catch up!!

After quick hello's, we all settled in for some more fishing, then I let out a YYYYAAAAHHHOOOOO!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZ

Across the water from Marlin Mike comes this rather blunt "SHOW OFF" [smiley=shocked2.gif] [smiley=shocked2.gif]!!!

The lie detector on the side of the boat says it all, not a bad table fish I gotta say!

    The Total catch, 1 x 50cm, 1 x 47cm, and others we measured, but can't remember, but the rest were around 40 - 45cm making a total of 7 fish including 1 x Parrot.

They look much bigger when you hold them out!! ( without Great Whites hands in the pic)

Re: When Two rods is too busy

We probably caught around 30 snapper varying in size, including those not legal. Then the Whip Tails would account for another 15 or so, it was certainly busy, and a top day!! [smiley=laola.gif]

Nice catch there Brian & Poodroo, Did you get the parrot on a plastic?
Conditions looked perfect today but unfortunatley i had to work so next weekend i hope to get out there and chase a few squire.
Care to share info on what plastic did the damage?
I recall it was around this month last year that you caught that snapper so i hope we get onto a few before the summer heat warms up the water too much.

Well Scalem I have to thank you again for such a great day out at our favourite spot. I do believe thanks is in order to me as well though for entertaining the "Nursery" fish on my side of the boat to create a decoy long enough to keep them away from your side. Can you imagine my frustration when I got one that came in 1cm short of being a keeper and no matter how hard I stretched it I couldn't make its tail fin reach the mark. That one hurt to let go. But at least I had a ball landing heaps and at least had one keeper. Thanks for not rubbing it in too much.

    Hi Brent,
I hope next weekend turns it on like it did for us today

The Parrot went for a 3" Shrimp, dragged very slowly along the bottom. The Shrimp packet is on the bottom of the Garbage bin, so I am not going to try find the name - but it is grey and off white in colour.

We went through a whole packet of 3"Gulp Grubs each in Pumpkinseed, we had hits on just about anything -Turtleback worms, 3 and 4" Pearl Watermelon Scales, Walley 4" in Watermellon, and when we got tired of Whiptails monstering our placcies, we put the 4" snapbacks on (electric chicken), which outlast all the others.

Jig heads were a combination of home made jobs and a few Nitro in the mix. I bent one Nitro under load which was 1/6th oz, and had another awesome run right in front of an anchored boat who both said Buggar together when it snapped me off clean. I also used the Mustad 90* aberdeen in sizes 2 and 4 for my Home made JH's, the weight didn't need to go more than approx 1/4 ounce for the depth we were fishing, with very little tide running.

I had a few Zoom Baby Bass in the tackle box, but forgot to try them.

You are right, you have a good memory that I caught my PB Snapper in November last year. Poodroo and I Reminisced today as we drifted over the same ground. It's weird, but my Cobia in my Avitar was caught in the month of November too, so I had to get out this weekend, rain, hail or foot. ( Nursing an infected foot that's got a Microbiological Bug I picked up from the soil in a gardening accident)

Good luck, for next weekend Brent.

Cheif, were you MM's tag along other boat? Yes it was a fab day.

Brian... Nice to see you up and about and getting into a few - Poodooroo - your turn next time

Yes.... It was a nice day on the bay and I couldnt help but think how nice the bay would have been today - while we were off the goldy and I was chucking my guts up... for a full description see my report in the offshore section.

Think you won our little "race" mate - well and truly flogged... wonder how foggy went... hes been a bit quiet - must have clean up and doesnt want to tell anyone .

    Cheers,

    Adam

Well done guys It could have been me out there with you if I didn't have to work

You deserve to get onto a few, but what's this you have to read it in our AF report business, when I sent out several texts asking for a report

Bad form guy's I should be on the speed dial # 1 key

Tip 1 always lock the boat as soon as you hook it up at home then you never forget it

Some of those fish look very small even in your hands let alone poor GW,s

How did the foot hold up Brian

So Brian caught all the big ones did he Andrew
