    Wednesday at mud

Got up nice and early at 3am to check out the seabreeze website to see if forcast strong winds had arived and was happy to see light winds on the bay so i was off to mud, was a bit choppy early but flattened out nicely around 6am, anyway i was keen to go as i had bought myself a new shimano sustain 2500 last week spooled with 10lb fireline and didnt have to wait long either, first 2 casts produced squire and all up i guess i caught around 12 between daylight and 8am when i left, funny thing i was bringing in what felt like a small squire when it took off like a train and ran 50metres before the line went back to light weight and then heavy again before breaking, me thinks my fish got gulped by something a tad bigger, also lots of hits where my plastic would be sinking and something would hit it and take drag but not get hooked up?, im hunting around for the new berkley jig heads in 1/4oz on a 1o hook as they seem strong, what do other use in this size? i find tt has sharp hooks but not as strong as i would like.\
( is that reel not a thing of beauty?)

is that reel not a thing of beauty? v.nice

those conditions look pretty good. should have been a good bite with the top of the tide @ 0634 hrs.

well done, blooded the new reel with a nice fish. I have the old berkley jigheads in 1/8th 1/0 size. they seem to be tough enough for the legal size squire etc around mud.......it's those ooglies that strip line at will that may bend'em up a bit.

    cheers, roo.

Nice work there. I've also got a Sustain but it is the 1000 size with 6lb fireline matched up to a T-curve road. The combo is great and to be honest it would be good to have the 2500 at times. I'm sure you'll love it and have many great catches on it. I do a fair amount of plastic flicking around Mud also and have found the TT jig heads to be best. I found it hard hooking up to some of the fish when using heavier gauge hooks. So far I haven't had any trouble with straightening out hooks due to the light lines used. The best fish I've picked up out there has been a 5kg mack tuna which took about 25-30 minutes to land. Had to drive after it all over the place. It must have looked pretty funny because I was by myself with my rod in one hand the tiller handle in the other and jumping all over the boat trying to hang on. But that's why we do it eh!

Perfect combo for Mud. That is exactly what I use. Though I usually use bait, it works well for either.

We did a tag with you and headed out late afternoon to be the only ones out there with that lone trawler. Similar results by the sound of it. Well done.
