    nice flattie from shorncliffe

i went to Shorncliffe&sandgate jetty this afternoon with my new tackle.

first 2 hours passed with the fight of toadfishes. i got around 12 with sps

as sun goes down, i started to get some nice bites on the sp (not toad fish because the sps were not destroyed) but missed them all. i thought it was some small bream and the jig head was just too big. so i used a minnow hard body with one hook removed. in the 10-11th cast, i felt a big smash and everything goes quiet, but just as i start to retrieve again, a good run showed me that i got a fish!

lots of worry for my 2-6lb rod and 4lb braid but finnally i landed the fish. it was a 50cm thick flattie for a good feed.

still wondering where else around shorncliffe is better for lure fishing.

Well done on the flatty on a hard body champion.

If I can suggest some where, try haveing a poke around the corner into Cabbage Tree Ck, especially on the ebb tide mid week with the softies.
Work over the area between the jetty and the vmr pontoon.
Reckon you might be eating flathead for tea.

    cheers

that is just where i fished this afternoon.
what kind of fish can be caught there usually on sp/hardbodies.
and i heard that flatties like to gather in around structure but i think there is only plain sand bed so where should i thrown my lures?
    thanks mate

    Nice effort!
Flattie will lay on the drop off of a sand bank, waiting for baitfish to come off the bank as the tide recedes.
They're an ambush predator, so while structure is advantageous to them, they will quite often lay buried in sand on an otherwise flat bottom.

i remember when i was a young fella. On a run in tide at night we would throu baits (back when i used it) under the pier right against the slats of timber, which was the old fench when it was a pool. Some of the bream that would either bust us off or we would get it where horses. I havent fished it for years now but if i was to fish there thats where i would start.

Try behind the Fish Co-op. I've had some success there in the past.
