    donnybrook coochin

hit the water at 4.30 am headed straight up to coochin and the w's boated about 5 undersized whiting and 2 bream all released decided to head back downstream and fish a few run out spots i like to fish for zilch then tried one of my fathers old spots just outside of the prohibited zone up around the hut and caught 5 whiting an a bream all legal but no real size to them 8.30 the tide slackened and the rum and pizza from the night before decided it was time to make a reappearnce so ducked back to the ramp for a number 2 should of loaded the boat up then and there instead of heading back out into the hot sun for another 3 hours of the making tide for nothing.
is it just my imagination or has it been a bad year for whiting up in pumicestone passage they seem to be every where else like maroochy river and noosa river but not in pumicestone passage

    Hey Shane,

I think it was you that I was having a chat to at the tie down area about 11:30. Black label Smirnof on the houseboat??
Must agree that the fish were hard to track down. They have been for months up that way. Need a really goot flush out. I think the rain we've had so far must have been soaked up by the ground, as the water clarity at low tide is still very good.
    Very few muscrabs yet, too.

Likewise Shane. You're a friendly bloke. I was only out with my 4 year old daughter for the first time this morning (she's more interested in going fast), so not a huge amount of fishing, but nice to chat to someone that's willing to talk honestly about where they went, what they tried and what they got. I'm a semi regular at the area and I'd be lying if I said that every time I go out there I don't think about where this spot in about a metre of water that Shane gets his whiting from is. Maybe I can traid a good mudcrab spot for a whiting spot???

In years gone past, I've always thought that the mudcabs are better after Chrissy up there.

Bad news... If the ting master is having trouble finding them, we're off to a bad start to the season.

Don't worry Shane, I'm sure you'll find em soon enough.

    Hi Shane,
I have been getting some good Whiting up around the mouth of Coochin but they are a bit slower at the moment . I actually was doing better around July / August. They seem to change their favorite areas and tides each year just to keep it interesting and challenging.

hi sunny its a hard slog for fish there at the moment taking a mate crabing at spinnaker sound in the morning might throw a couple of pillies at the bridge on top of the tide and see if i can't pull a nice squire out.
coochin i normally fish on the banks between the 2 green pegs out from the mouth of coochin and when i get a nice high tide i fish the bank just indside the mouth where the narrow channel goes in normally get a few nice fish there but i find the shallower water the better up there
