    Healthy diet of Snapper

    Hi All,

I guess you could say that I am a little spoiled to think going out to Mud and catching a feed of Snapper is not worthy of a post BUT..... This was no ordinary trip

Both Great White and I decided that a sojourn down to Mud in his boat was an acceptable compromise, as neither of our normal deckies could free themselves of committments in order to go fishing. I have until now, admired Petes' boat from a spectator's view, and today's trip was my 1st trip in it. Considering the 20Knt SE wind, I am glad we went in the "tinnie" rather than mine. Pete's boat has a softer ride because it is deeper V.

The deeper V was great until we travelled across the wind, and for a while, every time the hull spliced through a wave, the wind picked up the spray and gave us a soaking. I think a shower at home is in order in about 5 mins, my shirt feels crunchy with the amount of salt I collected from the bay.

Our catch for a morning's work was 4 keepers, from 47cm down to legal 35.5cm, which isn't really anything to write home to mum about, but it was a great morning all the same. Not to mention the company of course!!

Thanks for your hospitality Pete, I hope we can do it again soon, thanks for your top effort running your boat, which was a welcome change to running mine!! [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

    Nice work on the snapper.

I was silly enough to go out in the bay too- that wind was a real pita. It was pretty wet and bumpy at times in the open 455.

I fished the northen side of Peel to get a handful of small squire on plastics, and 2 legals on a floated pillies. I also threw the pots out but came up with 0.

I sure hope that wind slows down for tomorrow -fingers crossed

That's a nice post Brian, too kind to me. You forgot to mention that you caught all 4 fish and thus by choice I was hidden in the photo not to ride on your coat tails

I did however enjoy myself and maybe next time I might be able to catch a fish or 2.

Poodroo I think I took up your position of deckie and caught nothing

Thanks again for a most pleasurable day.

Um I have to burst your bubble even further Peter and correct you on a minor technicality. I didn't "not catch anything" last time. I had one good keeper and caught and released so many undersized that I lost count. But they were all on Scalem's side of the boat that day. Don't know why it works out that way but it does. Would love to know the science behind it. Glad you both had a great day though. Well done. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Nice feed of squire there guys, I thought about heading out this morning but after checking sea breeze decided it was a day for car washing and a few odd jobs around the house.
You fella's are keen so top marks for going out there today.
There's always a next time for me as i have family commitments Sunday.

Poodroo, How often have I been on the other side of the boat, and come home fishless when my crew catch all the fish Heaps of times!!

Pete, your boat is 455 or 475? I can't remember, but it certainly handles the bay chop well. We had a good look at the predicted winds, and the only real effect was that we got a little wet, and had to slow down when headlong into it, but NEVER felt unsafe. It was amazing how few other boats there were out there, I don't think we could ever be labelled "silly" for going out there today, we know our limitations considering the wind. I actually think that up to 20 knots in a reliable and safe boat can be rewarding, as the fish are just as likely to come on the chew.

Mark, my four arms are are no more productive than 2 on this occasion ( by self confession )

oddbudman, the wind looks like it will be less than what it was today. Your rig should do OK shouldn't it? I would go in my little 15 footer!

Brent, I know your circumstance, and it always goes in cycles. At the moment I am having a decent crack at them, last week, this week, and a mate I have promised a trip to for months- going again next Saturday. But I went 2 months without. Was worth going with the family's blessing Get in before the Christmas rush though, and before it gets too hot!

Thanks for the kind words Guys!

Dave - The tinny is a Stessco 475 with a pod so that makes it about 5m.

Goes OK with the 60 two stroke on the back. Brian said he thought it was pretty smooth for a 2 stroke! It is turning 3 this Christmas.

Look out for us on the water "On Strike!" and of course we have the Ausfish stickers!

Andrew - I kept wanting to swap sides to get to the one with the fish but it did not make any difference! I will have to admit that it "might" have been skill!

Good effort guys, and a feed as well.

Can't complain about that for braving the elements.

Must admit our best effort at Mud consisted of huge catfish and rays...

    Cheers,
    Rich.

So.... the hoodoo continues??? Glad to see you got a few, not a great time of year to try and break hoodoos though Better luck next time GW... but at least you've been in some great company - with some of the guys you have fished with - theres not much placcy knowledge left to impart - from here on in its all patience and persistence. The best tip is leave the bait at home.

    Well done and good report.

Well done - good report - lets see how long the snapper run sticks around for while we wait for the spotties to fire up!!

Thank God for the clarification - I was beginning to think mutation via fish toxin poisoning!!
