Hey fisho's. Woke up way too early this morning to beat the sunrise and hit my spot X at the harbour. A mate of mine had given me reports of squire being taken up to 50cm from the rocks so I was fairly keen for a result.
With reports of large Jacks inhabiting the area as well I was doubly excited. Left the SP's at home today, instead using fresh mullet strips which I'd netted on an earlier sortie.
Arrived and first cast I was monstered only to miss the strike. It's been to long away from soaking baits me thinks...........
A few minutes later the drag screams again and the fish is heading for snaggy pylons. Jack I think instantly, tightening up and turning her. Maybe a squire (if I'm lucky). The flash of silver under my headlamp shows up one of the biggest bream I'v ever pulled and shades of Jacksta's recent bream post, being eclipsed made me smile.
Then of course the inevitable happened and the fish was dropped at the rocks. (I reckon she would have gone close champ).
A few more big hits & the sun soon rose, shutting the place down. But it was a top 45mins. Decided to quickly throw a popper out to see what was around and first twitch got whaled! A short run before once again the trebles were spat. Trev. Spotting a trend I called it quits and headed off to Cleveland to net some bait for next week and maybe throw the prawnstar around. Also dropped the crabpot in for an enquiry (just in case). An hour later the bucket was loaded with mullet and I went to pull the pot up. To my surprise and a happy ending to a rather uneventful morning a solid Buck was inside for the Mrs.
All in all, things turned out OK and I'm looking good for next sesh. Cheers.
Richie
PS: The lid is for a 25LTR bucket.
