Hi All
After a very lean 3 trips, it was time for redemption! A previously arranged deckie (an old mate who's a newby to SP's) pulled the plug at 7pm on Sat night - after having arranged this trip some 3 weeks ago and was keen for me to take him out! Not to be perturbed, i sent an SOS out to a few fellow fishermen and before i'd even reached the end of my list, an SMS was fired back by ole sparring partner TINN ! Now TINN, who's been out of action in recent times due to mini-apprentice numero 2, was concerned that he didn't have any bait. 'Man, i've only got some old pillies!' 'Don't worry mate, we're using placcies!!' 'But i don't have a placcie rod!' 'Don't worry, you can use my spare whiting rod and i'll rig it up for SP's. And if you're still concerned, i'll bring some Mullay and some real Aussie pillies!' Done! 4am at the ramp!
We alighted to gorgeous conditions and only a single tinnie near our favourite spot, but far enough away that it was a non-issue. 'Threadie Killer' in the water while TINN, who has never caught a fish on SP's (not that he's tried much at all), busily sets out his 2 outfits with Mullay and Pillie at the back of the boat (ye of little faith!). Finally, in he goes with a Pumpkinseed minnow. 'Does this colour work?' 'Yeah mate, it certainly does!' when all of a sudden zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz and my 'TK' screams off... Phew, first decent fish in 4 trips and TINN did the honours in ensuring the 55cm Snap hit the deck! Back in and across the horizon swings STEVEN78 who greeted us good morning and set about his business. Zzzzzz and i'm off again, this time a 45cm hits the esky. Top start i'm thinking! TINN's Mullay outfit starts doing a serious bendover and within minutes, TINN adds to the esky with a 42cm specimen. More drifts and casts and smallish squire and the Mullay is off again - this time with a nice 38cm Sweetlip! Meanwhile, TINN has caught his 1st ever Squire on an SP - albeit a little one... A start though! A after a short wait, TINN screams, 'I think i might have my 1st keeper on plastics!'... And indeed he did - a nice 43cm Squire joins its sibblings!
As quick as we were on the action, it was off! All of a sudden STEVEN78 has hit a patch and then began his feature presentation 'Puppetry of the Snapper'! What a site as we watched for the next hour bend over bend of Steve's outfit - the man could do no wrong while we drifted around twidling our thumbs and watching him get nailed cast after cast! Great to watch Steve and i certainly enjoyed the show - you looked like a kid in a candy store and why wouldn't you?!! Steve also kindly motored over and gave us some of his Zoom Baby Bass to try while sharing his dilemna of what he should do with his next fish as he had 4 in the bag! I guess that 65cm Snapp answered that question for him!!
Nonetheless, i gave the Zooms a flick for not much action while in the meantime, TINN had decided the TK was the go! I also left a rod out the back with a TK floater on it (just in case)... We tried drifting over another spot that we've never really ventured over too much previously when TINN gets excited and he's on! Almost simultaneously, my floater TK is off and in the boat comes in another at 45cm while TINN adds a 38cm specimen to it! Bugger this as i replaced the Zoom with the TK again. Steve came over and bid farewell and motored off into the sunshine while TINN and i continued to enjoy the morning. A bit of time elapsed when TINN yells 'BANG' and then the sound of zzzzzzzz on the little whiting rod as he dances for joy with another in the mid 40's into the esky! Well, i've been outfished by TINN - the deckie! Damn! And again he starts jumping up and down as his reel zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's off around the boat! 'Man, told ya these plastic things work!' Hmmm, shall i send him overboard now or after we clean the fish? This time, i returned the favour and into the boat a nice fat 50cm Snapp - just to round out his bag! Well done TINN - now you have to go buy your own rod - then again, after this morning, i'll hire you my spare whiting rod...
All in all a great morning, with some nice fish, and a top show by S78 and back at the ramp before 10am... Certainly was nice to break the run of outs!
Take Care T
