Re: IS THERE ANY FISH IN SYDNEY
Indo,
Your in the best spot and using the right baits. All along the shore from dolls point to sandringham is great for flathead and whiting, and some great bream at night. The boat ramp on the southern side of the captain cook bridge produces good bream and the odd jew at night. if you feel like a drive.....the rock groins at kurnell produce most estuary species.....and at niight if you use a long rod and an unweighted yabby fish one rod length deep direct from the tip of the rod.............hang on tight.....you get some monster luderick. Just perseverence and patience is required......and use plenty of burley.

Re: IS THERE ANY FISH IN SYDNEY
As much as it hurts to say it.....your better off buying your yabbies from the bait stall just north of tom ugly's bridge......i used to pump mine in Port hacking......gunamatta bay and the sand banks in south west arm....but ya need a boat. Depending on where you live.....the bait shop near the milperra bridge at bankstown airport was always reliable for live yabbies and worms as well.....Ace bait and tackle i think. Fresh prawns are an excellent bait in the area as well....especially december/january....though the small catfish can be a pest at times...especially on the turn of the tide.
PS: a friendly word of warning.....if your going to fish these areas at night...DO NOT fish alone....make sure you have a couple of mates with you....thats one of the many reasons i moved from sydney to brisbane.

Re: IS THERE ANY FISH IN SYDNEY
Indo,
Perserverance is everything......i am glad that you got something....keep trying.
I have fished the north side of Tom Uglies from the shore....picked up the occassional bream....and lots of catfish. But this is extremely rough bottom and you will loose heaps of gear to snags. Much rather fish it in a boat....there are some great jewie holes upstream of the bridge.
Top turn of the tide just after sundown on a new or full moon is the best time i found. November is normally a quiet month in the bay. Once the weather starts to warm up.....i would be targetting whiting and flathead along the southern bay beaches......just remember night time is the best time.....have not had a lot of success in the bay during daylight hours..except on trevally and luderick.
My favourite area in Sydney is Port Hacking.......doesnt hold a lot of fish....but what you get are usually good quality.....but you do have to put in the time...there are no magic wands to fishing in sydney.
Tip. Keep a record of when you fish, what the tide was doing, wind direction, moon phaseand recent rain fall.........then you can review it and see what pattern emerges.
If you put in the effort ....you will get the rewards.
Cheers
