Headed up to Bribie early with the son of one of my mates who has just hit school holidays and expressed a interest in fishing. He did not look so keen at 4.00 am but that was fixed with a quick bacon and egg roll at the BP on the way.
Got down to the sand banks south of Buckley's Hole and flicked the plastics around for an hour with no success. We then switched to worms and started to catch a few tiny whiting. We then moved up the food chain a little to a few tiny Tarwhine and then finally managed a 12 cm Bream.
We moved back along to Buckleys's Hole where we ran into a fellow ausfisher who had bagged a decent flattie on a plastic so I put one on again but just kept getting the tail bitten off by smaller fish. Back to the worms and we then got a few Fingermark mostly under 15cm and eventually we got a Fingermark that was big enough to keep so at least I could send the youngster home with a fish for dinner.
We carried on and caught just about one of everything Wrasse, Parrot Fisf, Zebra Fish, but nothing big enough to keep.
Finally put the Gulp Shrimp on for one last try and after a couple of casts hooked onto what felt like a decent flathead only to see the now slightly frayed 1.8kg Fireline part company from the leader after a decent tug.
After a miserable October of poor catches I was happy to see at least that we were catching fish again. Now I need to leave the worms alone and get focused on catching some decent fish on the plastics again.
