Came back from hinchinbrook a couple of weeks ago to find myself feeling pretty bloody average about the whole local fishing scene. It took an entire 4 days to get back on the water in search of a jack over 40cm! (plenty of rats up there) First trip produced 2 average jacks with 1 over 40. Next trip I dragged my brother out and the prick poached a good jack from under my nose. It faintly hit my prawn first and as soon as his got into into the zone he got smacked. The end result was a top fish next to the boat wrapped around a twiggy branch. The next trip produced squat and I was starting to get a bit pissed about the constant S/E winds keeping the water temps down. Gave it another go on thursday and did it tough even though the water temp was up around 29-30 degs. In 4-5 hours i got 4 hits with 2 hitting livies. Normally I don't fish with baits but after dropping 5 different types of lures into a snag that will always hold one, things were looking ordinary. The 1st little poddy that went down made it 3/4 of the way down and the first jack was on board. It measured 41cm and went straight back in. On this particular night the misses was off to see some bloke named robbie in brissie and took my camera with her leaving me with with hers. Of course I was destined to get a good fish and just as the sky went black a nice jack hit the SP well out from home base. The poor fella didn't get much of a chance being so far from from home but was in prime condition measuring 51cm. Hopefully a few more in the 50's and a few less in the 30's start heading my way. Cheers.....
