Went up the coast for 3 nights and fished Alexandra beach on the right hand side on the first morning with SP's and slugs. The very first cast was with a 20g slug but was snagged straight away > so I decided not to use them any more and to switch to SP's. I put a 3" p'seed on and as soon as it hit the water bang I was on with a quick fight, in comes a 31cm whiting. This was the biggest one I have ever caught and to do it on sp's made it even better. not long after I landed and small brim which would have gone about 20 cms so I put him back to fight another day. By this time the sun was getting a bit high and the surfers where every where and some were even walking in right where I was casting > this really pi$$ed me off! so I kept on trying with out any luck, not long after I packed up and headed for home to have some whiting for breakfast.
The next morning was new years day and I was sleeping in with a hang over. Over the past 2 days I have herd of taylor reports at the mouth of the river so I got up at about 4:40 and headed off. I had 2 rods with me, my sp rig and one of my surf rods. My sp rod was all ready set up with my last raider slug (10g) I cast out as far as possible and bang I was on but all of a sudden there was no weight! the bloody knot come un done! I couldnt belive it each of my raider slugs where lost on the first cast! Back to the tackle box to get the old cheap slugs which still managed to get 4 small dart all up with nothing touching my surf rod with the 65g raider on it. On the long walk back I seen 2 guys fishing where I was on the first morning, the last guy I spoke to had about 4 brim which where of very good size (30-40cm) and a whiting which would have gone 35cm easy! He was using live beach worms.
Well I was glad to be back out there again and might be headding to nosa on saturday if im lucky
Cheers, Mick.
