New SP outfit christened at Mud

Left Nudgee about 4pm Thursday for a Plastic session. Bought myself a xmas present being a 2kg stick and shimano 1000 stradic loaded with 6lb braid. First cast at Mud and I was blown away by a good snap. (pretty hard to stop them on 6lb string with a 6lb leader, but good fun.) Ended up with five keepers ranging from 49-65cm all caught on the new rod. The 65cm fish took about 5-7 minutes to subdue on the light line. My other outfit with the 14lb leader did not get a touch all arvo. Caught about 20 squire all up of which only 3 were unders. Also lost a few other good fish to the bottom.

Went back out this morning and it was the total opposite. Only 1 50cm keeper and about 50 unders. Amazing how much the place changes in 10hrs.

Only two photos as the battery died but you have all seen snapper before.

    Well done Foggy,

Same place?? Spot X? This is the one you have often drifted past but discovered a whole new world a few months ago. Certainly produces the big ones doesn't it? I agree with what you are saying, you really have to fish with light line. As GW says, the "tooth floss"

I'll sign an agreement in blood , never to tell anybody your secret spot X coordinates. What are they??

Well done Foggy as always. I highlighted the important bits for Great_White seeing as he has so much time on his hands now and no doubt will have time to read. Light line does bring in the big ones Pete.

Nice work Foggy - a good way to christen the new gear.
We were also out at Mud this morning and found it very quiet. Lots of undersize everything. Very frustrating bringing up plastics with their tails chewed off!!!Had to work very hard for our three keepers all around 40cm. The gulp 3inch penny prawn was surprisingly again the star.

    regards

Top stuff Fogs. We got a few this morning as well although baits did most the damage. I think I was fishing a bit light weight with my jig head tho. What size you been using to drift? 1/4 or heavier in the run?
    Cheers mate.

    Mart+jojo,

    Thats next weekend

    Richie,

1/6th jig head did the damage today. The sea anchor helps slow my drift.

Hi Graham, 6 LB braid and 1000 stradic? Are you trying to break the record for the biggest snapper caught on 6lb?
Mate i was using 6lb with 8lb leader a week ago around Green.
Got blowin away several times but as you say its great fun.
How much braid can you fit on the 1000 stradic?
Might be hitting the bay tomorrow in a mates boat so may see ya out there.
    Cheers Brent
