whiting and blood worms
Well i put the boat in the Richmond river on sun morning in the hope on chasing and landing a few whiting that i have heard about. Got on the water at around 10.00am and cruised up to my favourite little whiting bank armed with some live yabbies, beach worms and blood worms which i have never used before. High tide in about 1hr things look good. I started using the yabbies and not a touch after about 15mins so i change over to the beach worms, this will get em i thought but no not i touch. I changed over agoain to the blood worms which cost me a bloody fortune for about eight littli wrigglers and thought this bloody better work and mate i was blown away. Same spot, same rig but with blood worms and i got a very healthy whiting every cast! I could not believe the difference in bait choice. I ended up with around 8 beautiful whiting around the 40cm mark before running out of the blood worms. I swithed over to the beach worms and nothing.
I can assure you that these blood worms are the gun bait for whiting, now i need to find out where to find and catch these buggers. Any tips?

Re: whiting and blood worms
I'll try and answer some of your questions...
First of all You would have bought $$$ Cribbies they are still a mud worm and are effective in some spots.....I know the bait shops advertise them as bloods but their not!
Now the true blood worm lives in the mangroves and I dig them with my hands..The difference? Their longer and softer and the whiting prefer these to any other worm for night time fishing especially!
The also have a unique scent.
I dig them in the pine and Brissie rivers.. their right in close to the mangroves..Just start your dig close to the mangrove roots.
It's hard work and nobody could do it commercially...
But wow watch the whitng take them......
Now to honky dory's question the worms at Woody point and scarborough are another worm known as "rockies"
I actually prefer these worms to the second preference over bloods.
They are small and soft like a blood worm and hence this is why they rate second. How ever these worms don't live long and are best dug within 12 hours of a trip.....you dig them with a garden fork in the rocky rubble....
But back to jewienewie..well done..... their top fish mate and don't they get you in..like I fish offshore as well ..but propping 2 rods up and sitting back is so easy especially when you target big whiting...luv it!
Had a couple of trips down the coomera while the weathers been bad..whiting they luv a S.E. wind influence.
cheers Capt. Mud.

Capt .Mud,
What are you looking for to try and fing the worms and are you using your hands or and you using a pitch fork. As I have never seen this done before.
