    Re: Brissy River THREADIE

    Thanks Guys.

Bat- Mate they are very good eating-alot like Barra,in fact the fillets are very similar indeed and as Hooknose stated they go a bit soft if left in the freezer for too long. They have 2 large knuckles under the dorsal fins and smaller ones along the backbone,so it makes filleting a bit more challenging.I don't miss much meat and any I do I cut out and use for stir-fry.The Flaps I bake-BEAUTIFUL!!

CHIEF- I got him at night, but they do chew during the day. It's just like other species,if you get the tides and moon right it helps a lot.

Cuzza-Mate I'm doing my best.As I don't have a boat, nor am I any longer working on one, landbased close to home is it for at the moment.I put a lot of time in and am always learning. This fish was the result of 3 days perseverence!!

Shane Boese - Mate if you ever hook -up to one you WILL know about it.Yes they fight very well indeed with big head shakes and long powerfull runs.(Just look at the tail)

Toppy - Mate I certainly hope that I will be posting a pic of his big brother .As for location-near the rocks by the trees where there is a lot of water.LOL
    Cheers
p.s. As I'm at work now I will try later to post another photo and the story.

So did you eat the thready you caught in the brissie river. I bet you had to put it on a detox program first.

I promise you ,if I had caught it anywhere upstream from West End I would have, but without giving too much away thr section of river that I caught it would get a good flush on the run out each day for me to feel safe enough to eat it.

Hi all,had to get my wife to help me work out this new system.(pathetic aren't I).

This THREADIE was the result of 3days of perserverance. The 1st arvo I was only out to throw the net and get some exercise.Bait was scarse but as I got it,it was returned with a hook.I got some Big catties ,around the 4-5 kg,rays, bite-offs from sharks and a couple of long fast runs, but no set hooks.
I went back the next day and did pretty much the same thing.
I gave the day a miss and went back on the Friday. It started out similar to the last 2 nights until the first lightning run. This one was on!!After about 10 min he came to the surface about 5m in front of me(and I'm sure another 20 mins of fight)When it's huge tail hit the line as it took off.GONE!!

That fish also took my last live bait so on when a dead one from Wed night and as soon as it hit the bottom I was on.I sware it landed in it's mouth.20 min later with no net or gaff I lipped him up.

I retuned the following night and couldn't even get bait in the net, when after about 2 hrs I threw the net to feel something quite big thrashing about.I thought I had a school of large mullett but it was a Bull shark about 3ft long. The only reason It didn't get out was the fact that it had 5 of my rigs in it's mouth from the 5 bite-offs I had over the 3 days fishing, and yes I got every hook back( Demon 6/O's).

Classic Threadie mate. The night fishing lately in the Brissie River has been the best I've seen it in a while.

    Cheers Dave
