    Diesel/Turbo Mechanic

Does anyone know a good Mechanic in Brisbane (Preferably around Clayfield area) that is good with Diesel motors and Turbos? I need to get mine looked over, and would like some input on who's good.

    Thanks.

Highway Diesel at Coopers plains for fuel pump.
Sorry it is on the other side of town but they do good work and they don't do it cheap. Stay clear of the cheap in those lines.

Well..... I rang a few companies yesterday about getting my turbo looked at... Geezus they are expensive little buggers! $1200 for the most basic of repairs, witht he average being $1800!!!!!!!!

Guess I will be going to my cousins to overhaul it ourselves on the weekend!

I am a deisel mechanic of 25 plus years and really stress to take it to a specialist, they have extremely fine tolerances and if it flys to bits it will cost more than a couple of grand

    Re: Diesel/Turbo Mechanic

Well I went up to my cousins on saturday, and we had a look at the turbo. The turbine was spinning fine (Took the front off the turbo and spun it with fingers), so that wasnt the issue. The waste gate is actually a seperate unit on my turbo, and we pulled that out to have a look at it. We discovered that the waste gate valve was not closing properly, as the waste gate shaft was extended too far out. WE shortened that up, and it closed the waste gate nicely! We also noticed that the internal diaphram on the waste gate had a small hole in it. I need to replace this (Am ringing around now), but we temporarily patched it up.

Also changed fuel filter and air filter.

Took the cruiser for a run to see how it went around the block (Which included a big hill), and the difference was pretty good! Pulled up the hill much nicer, and the turbo actually kicked in where it was meant to, and spun up to speed quickly and efficiently (Helps that the waste gate was closed!!). It was when I drove back to Brizzy from the Sunshine Coast however that I REALLY noticed the difference... 110Km/h in 5th gear (Over drive on), and I could still accelerate! I only had to change back a gear twice, and that was because the cars in front where going slower!!!

Very happy with it, and it only cost me the diesel to get up to the coast and back!

If it had of been an issue with the turbo itself, then money would have had to have been raised real quick, but it looks like I got away with it...... Thanks for all your posts guys! Much appreciated!
