    Air Filter Maintenance

I am just doing a bit of maintenance on the old Disco and decided the air filter element was looking a bit grubby so I degreased and washed it. It is an aftermarket reusable type and appeared to have a red oil in the foam. Can anyone tell me what is the normal maintenance for this type as I usually use replacement type paper ones. Do I need to get some oil and what type do I use?

    Cheers

You can buy a K&N air filter service kit for about $30 from most auto stores. They have the oil in the kits. The good thing is that once you do this, you wont have to touch it again for another year at least.

landrover have been doing the oil air filter thing since Churchill was a size 32. Are you sure its aftermarket?

Are you up the coast (Sunshine) ? British Off Road on the Bruce Hwy at Forestglen is the duck's. As the guys said the oils available anywhere, advice & a new element / seals, see the guys at Forestglen or in Brisso the boys at FWD motors at Fairfield.

Oil filters leave paper well behind in performance particulary in fine dust (inl sand) environments but like anything Landrover require some extra work at service time.

yep that looks like a K&N to me neil. I put a J&N filter in mine ( They were the guys who used to design filters for K&N but went out on there own, based in brisbane ). great filters, you should hear the whistle and suction of the air from my snorkle now, helps plenty when your in dust/ salt air mist all they time.

whatever you do if your trucks turbo'd dont use the finer filters with the removable oiled like foam, it actualy decrease performance in some turbo trucks.

Chris, neil, If your after anything rover, even stuff youve never heard of before try MR automotive on anzac ave at redcliffe they are great. British off road are very good but very very dear, get a price off them then minus about 20 percent off it and that will be MR's price. they performed the tickle up on my fuel pump and other bits and peices very impressed.
