I'm new to this chat thing so I will see how I go.
I'm just about to purchase a new prado (seems I have picked up the bug after returning from a holiday in broome WA) and I was wondering if someone could recommend a tyre that would suit for both on and off road use, a good alrounder I guess I am after.
Another thing, I have heard that the new prados have a tendancy to wear the outside edges of the tyres.... is anyone having the same trouble?

I would recommend Maxxis tyre in any sort from highway to serious off road, they are not expensive either.
G'day, I have always got an excellent run out of Coopers tyres I would suggest there new ATR. If your getting a new prado make sure your dealer trades in the original tyres so that you get a credit for them - will reduce your cost of the new ones.
Tyre pressure, wheel alignment & tyre rotation should negate any problems.

I did this exercise when I was looking at one.
Gx prados run 16" rims and GXL runs 17" rims.
All terrains is what you need for touring as a minimum.
Heaps of choice with the 16's, but a bit of get what you're given with 17's depending on where you live.... Cooper does a tyre, and BF is bringing one out I believe? Good luck, and happy spending cause the 17's aint cheap

Cooper AT's on my Prado 2001, great on the road and off the road . Mainly for launching boat where no ramps are around. The Grandtreks on them at first were crap. Soft and all but scrubbed out real quick around town.
Not noisey at all. Approx $250 per corner when i bought them. plus free rotation every 5,000 Klm at Signiture tyres where i bought them.
Tyres I have had my HJ60 for 6 years done 80,000k and only recently replaced my Falkin Landair RV tyres I sold them with still 40% tread and put new Falkin Landair RV tyres at a cost of 200.00 per tyre I think thats $1.00 per 100k and a return of 30c per 100k so my tyers cost me only 70c per 100k over 6 years. Also I never had one flat and I run them at 27psi I think there suspost to be run at about 35 - 40 psi. The other good point about these tyres is that they have no road noise handle well in the wet and dry but as tread gets low the traction in the wet is reduced but that would be the same as any wide tyre in the wet. Hope this helps.
Running BFG all terrain on my Prado. Just found out that they come as standard, fitted to all new Hummers, so they must be rated.

went well on my trip to the cape
Bridge Stone Desert Duellers are ok for around $150
Have been running Kelly Safaries on my rangie now for about 12 yrs and have not had a problem yet.Even as the tread wears down you still have good traction in the wet.The grooves are cut at the same depth across the whole tyre which allows the water to be pushed out.

Thanks for the information.... have decided on the coopers but I think I will have a look at the Falkin Landair RV tyres when I have run these one down

We've been running the Goodyear Wrangler AT/R on our 2002 Frontera S V6...have over 80,000klm on them...highway, sand, dirt, corregations...very satisfied and will go for them again...around $225 each to replace them...could be worth checking out

i'll second that,
i've had maxxis on my lwb maverick for maybe 4 years.
they have been great on the road and off.
i've just about worn them out now after maybe 80,000km.
so guess what, i'm going back for more of the same.
