I have a mate with a '99 TDI, very competent 4x4. It's a shame you have to maintain it and buy parts for it . The prices for spares and maintenance are absolutely beyond a joke IMO. As a vehicle - fine, but the rest of what I've seen of his has been more than enough to encourage me to NEVER think of buying one.
