    hiclone fuel saver and power increase

    G'day its Vossy here,
    Has anyone had or know someone who has installed a Hiclone system on their 4x4 diesel? because I'm thinking about buying one or two , but for $160 a pop I want to make sure they're worth it.
    If anyone can give me some advice on the matter that would be fantastic

    Mate - I put one on a v6 petrol, but not a diesel. It definitely gave the vehicle more punch, which was great in sand and around town. It didn't do anything for the fuel economy that I noticed.

    Sorry it is not diesel info, but that may come later. I am considering putting on in a 75 series troopy to give it a little more punch (if it works the same as it did on my petrol).

    Mate, jump onto exploroz. You should be able to search it and then search that site. General concensus seems to be "snake-oil". I have a mate with one on a diesel hi-lux - he reckons he can't see any difference.

    I researched the same. #A few people saying better power / fuel economy, never any real proof. #Ie. Dyno at 100 hp prior and 110 hp after. Or fuel economy prior 15L/100km over 5 tanks, and 14.5L/100km after. #(figures for example only) #Even the web site makes very general claims. #My own belief; inefficient cars of 20 years ago it ‘may’ have helped, but modern designed engines it is not worth it. #Thinking about it car manufacturers spend millions of dollars designing engines, tuning the economy / power / reliability balance, if they could improve it with such a simple device they would include them from factory; would only cost less than a dollar for them to make such a simple part.

    Also why do performance vehicle spend $$ on having mandrel bent intake / exhaust systems to help with engine efficiencies to get more power; then a device to reverse this clean smooth flow is supposed to help the engine, doesn’t make sense? Maybe with a really inefficient carby setup the swirl could help, but I personally doubt it.

    I should mention this is all my own opinion, based on my research.

    G'day Vossy, Mate if you do some research in ths site (Ausfish) you'll find quite a few comments about them from years gone by, I think that I'd be right in saying that the majority of them weren't good,(it's been a while since I've been on here Mr Moderator, Sir) probably the best description that I've seen yet is "borisdog's" "snake oil"

    Thanks guys for the advice. I've done a bit more research and I think I might keep my money, or better still go down to my local tackle shop and spend it there. ( they have a sale on )

    Hi- Clones don't work and on some cars they can stuff up the computer readings by scrambling the air that goes past the MAF sensor.

    There would be some advantage for a car with a carby if fitted downstream from the carby but not for a fuel injected car of any fuel.

    A turbo will improve fuel economy for a diesel, (eh!) if tuned properly, by introducing extra air to the mix.

    You'll only get more power from a turbo diesel if you introduce more fuel.
