looking at buying a rebuilt fj 40 , it has the front tail shaft missing which was because of the suspension put in and a new one needs to be made , longer then the original does any one know what in would be up for .

Make your own is the easiest way to do it.
If you can cut and weld steel tube.
It is only the front shaft that doesn't get used much and at low speed, so the balance is not critical
A double carden shaft is best to use from a later model rig, one from the wreckers. You won't get a second hand one with a good slip joint,
There are a few diferrent flanges for the Toyotas.
It will cost a few hundred to get one lengthened or shortened and more for a new slip joint. I wouldn't worry about the slip joint butr that is up to you.
Are you sure of the transfer case or diff.
I recon it its a sweet swb but I really need a Ute the fj45's are tempting but I just cant justify the fuel bill when a 2.8L turbo desile hilux is that much more economical.
