WORN OUT GEAR SHIFT KNOB PROBLEM.

Crikey!! my Toyota Prado 5spd gear knob has begun to wear out with the leather starting to strip away,so I thought I'd get a genuine replacement from Toyota and keep the vehicle original. My flabbers were more gasted than usual when I was told by Toyota parts that a replacement knob would cost-wait for it.......$200!!!!!.
After a few choice words in the parts dept managers' ear I proceeded to Autobarn where I bought an almost identical leather gear knob for $14.95.I reckon if you had to build a Toyota from parts alone it would cost more than a Rolls Royce for sure!!
The moral of the story is...always protect your knob and try not to wear it out too soon!!.
    Cheers! Jace.

hmmmm, Maybe my GF thinks the same as she seems to be protecting my knob from any use unless there's a bloon moon.

Maybe I need to find a younger gf who doesn't look after things

Yeah but how many of these parts would they actually sell then? is there anyone stupid enough to actually pay as much for a gear knob as a good Shimano TLD25??.Maybe they just don't wanna sell parts buggered if I know.Jace.

I once thought of replacing the radio in my cruiser with a genuine model only to be told it would cost over $500 for a cassette radio . Put in a cd tuner for half the cost . Must be bl**dy good radios in cruisers .

Toyota have always been extremely expensive for parts. Had a 1988 Camry, when ever it needed parts, went to holden and bought Apollo parts, had the same OEM logo on em, less than 1/3 of the price.

Many years ago (20 something) was rebuilding a cruiser motor, Toyota wanted over $600 for a set of rings and bearings. Got the equivilent from Repco for about $125.

must be a reason why they are so dear.Maybe they just don't want to look after their customers and force them to look elsewhere for a car next time.Jace.
