Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleaning

So level 3 is here and we are suppose to say goodbye to the hose for car cleaning and use a bucket. Thats fine for the top of the car but there is no way you can clean the underneath of a car with a bucket, gravity just isn't going to let us do that unless we quickly evolve intot he incredible hulk and turn our 4by's upside down.

    So a couple of questions:

    1. How are you going to get your 4wd clean after your next trip to DI, straddie, Fraser, Bribie or whereever? Car lovers or similar?

    2. If your using car lovers or similar do you really think you are going to get the job done and how much do you think its going to cost you? I imagine multiple uses of their magic wand isn't going to be cheap.

    3. Do the restrictions mean that you won't be heading to the beach this season?

If your like me you'll be giving the underbody oil-wash at noosa north shore a miss as it damages the rust proofing (per the rust proofers advice).

So lets here what your thinking. If you have any tips on cheap ways to get the car clean now would be a great time to share em

    Cheers

    G'day
Get a commercial bloke in to do it (like myself) as we're still able to use hoses. Ot just take it for a swim in a freshwater creek? Saw a bloke doing this at fernvale in the brizzy river. Only is there's one handy to you.

Re: Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleani

    Hi,

I use the mobil garage at noosaville it has a car wash and under bodie wash
which i have found works well , but i still strip the inner gaurds to clean any excess sand that may mybe floating around and wash the chassie rails with out with a hp hose , you would think if they are going to allow to flush & wash our boats down with trigger hoses then it would be ok to wash the underbodies of our 4wds after a trip ?

    Hi ,

I did speak with someone from Brisbane city council and they advised it was
ok to use a trigger gun to clean the underbodie of the vechile (boat or 4wd )as sand and saltwater is corrisive can cause damage to the vechile , but still have to use a bucket to clean the outside of the vechile .

    cheers

    Thanks for the info maverick.

I have sent an email to BCC to confirm this. If they do I am going to request it in writing so that I have a piece of paper to wave under any council inspector or abusive neighbours nose should it become an issue.

I got a pretty quick response to my query:

Thank you for submitting your request to Brisbane City Council regarding Water Conservation.

Washing of your vehicle (other than by a commercial service provider) is only permitted with buckets filled directly by a tap.

If you have any further Brisbane City Council enquiries, please access the Contact Information page available from the Home Page at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au or phone our 24 hour Contact Centre on (07) 3403 8888.

    Yours faithfully,

Obviously thats not what we needed to hear. Anyone else want to try.

Re: Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleani

    Hi ,

Sorry for the miss leading information that i received from the bcc , i also
sent them an email to confirm what i was told and this what they sent me ,

There are no specific Level 2 or Level 3 water restrictions for flushing boat motors. It is recognised that flushing of boat motors with fresh water is required to maintain the safety of the boat and, as such, would be permitted. Any flushing using a hose however should be kept to a minimum. Under Level 3 water restrictions, any other boat cleaning must be done using a bucket.

they did not even answer my question regarding the cleaning the underbodiie
of our 4wds , i will be contacting them to look in to it a bit further , but its ot looking good .

    cheers

Re: Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleani

Anymore feedback about washing the under sides of 4WD's with a hose from the BCC? Whats peoples experience with using the servos carwash's and the effect on rust protection applications?

    cheers,

Re: Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleani

    Nafai,

I don't think servo carwash's have any bad effects on rust protection. Its only a form detergent and dirty water they use anyway. But I don't think the underbody wash you get from those auto washes is anywhere near strong or long enough to deal with the effects of a beach trip. The oil wash at North Shore would be good enough (both long and hard) but the oil used will destroy rust preventitives.

I know the guy I got my rust prevention off does do after beach cleaning. I don't know how much it will cost though. I have a feeling it will make a day trip to double island totally uneconomical.

    Cheers

I have just been to d.i and on my return i was informed on the radio that level 3 started that day...BUGGER > i am one of the lucky ones that have a wash bay at work but that only deals with the car. the camper trailer still needed to be done cause i am a self confessed cheap skate. i thought up using a super soaker toy on it as it is pressurized nice. also B.C.F has a pressure hose thingy that sits on top of a bucket and draws from that if you want somthing more fancy.

Re: Level 3 restrictions and Post Beach 4wd Cleani

    Thanks LazyBugger,

The water restrictions shouldn't deter me from hitting the beaches but I have to admit its a consideration in trying to look after the cash investment/injection it took to get the vehicle to get me there.

    cheers,
