I had a Cherokee from about 93 to 2000. It was superb on the sand. Also handled the Simpson with ease.

Something to think about is the type of driving a car has done. Ie i would rather purchase a car with 110,00km of mostly highway/country driving than one with 80,000km of stop/start city driving. This especially applies if you are considering purchasing a diesel.
