    NONE OF THE ABOVE.

    I have a 2000 Triton Dual Cab,GLX, 3 litre V6 petrol.
Have towed my mates 15foot Haines to TinCan a few times and to Baffle Creek.Have yet to tow anything on sand with it. Except for the odd Rav 4, 2 hiluxs and a brand new Prado on Flinders. The bloke was still reading the manual.
A bit thirsty when you give it foot full, and turns like a council bus,

    BUT

I used to have a 1976 HJ45 Cruiser ute. You know the ones. Bought it in 1983. In the next 12 years that ute did all the beaches and islands from Red Rock to 1770. To the Cape once and Normanton. Pig shooting as far away as Blackall. And it went everywhere. It finally fell apart.

The Triton has done all of those except the Cape and Normanton.
And with the same ease as the Cruiser. And a lot more comfortably(says the missus). The low range is superb. Rous battery track first go, while the turbo Patrol behind me had 4 goes and then rolled a tyre off the rim. Those bloody things cant climb at all.

    And one last thing,

They cost less than one of those primadonnas you mentioned.

    Anyway, try one out.
My dictionary defines green as ‘unripe, immature, undeveloped'. Perfect description.

    Az

As part of your deliberations who do you have lined up to service and repair what ever you choose. What is their opinion. That would be my starting point.

At the the end of the day why not just do a matrix and score it?

    Vehicle brand Toyota Nissan
    Price
    towing ability
    comfort
    fuel eco
    service cost
    weaknesses
    parts costs
    resale
    etc

Put some score on the board (out ot 5 or 10 ) add and then justify your choice to the minister of finance, usually works for me (with mine)

Good luck will await your decision with interest.

    Cheers

Check out the new Triton Dual Cab 3.2l common rail diesel. Pull van or boat no trouble. Brilliant on fuel biggest cab in all the current dual cabs, plus a 10 year warranty. Drives like a car too, dont believe me? Go and drive one you might be surprised - i was. But I wont be swapping my Turbo diesel Pajero for one.

The new mazda diesel is pretty impressive on paper, supposed to be capable of 400+ nm with a bit of a tweak.

Pete have you thought about a combie van. Good on fuel, tow your boat, they got a bed in them already and they go on the beach. What more do you want??????
And if you are smart you will paint a big dope leaf on the side and pick up chicks and get free wacky weed.......

Better fuel economy than a Nissan.
Comfort of a hunjy with the versatility of a ute.
    Toyota =Tough
They to boats and do beach launches all the time( personally I'd never dunk a new car in salt water but each to their own.)
Can pick them up for a good price second hand.

Nissan in an ST-R Navara.... don't touch the new D40 in a diesel... they need another A pillar just for all the bloody recall stickers.

The new Hilux is pretty low out of the factory, but their diesels are bloody good little units.

    Hi snappa
I bought the Navara D40 in febuary, there have been 2 recalls ( minor stuff nothing too unusual for a new model )
I got the v6 petrol 197 kw (260 hp) 3 ton towing capacity
August "Overland "mag gave it a good report for towing (also compares the hilux and rodeo )
The v6 only drawback is its poor fuel economy around 15lts/100 kms
The diesel 2.5 ltr 128 kw and 403 nm still has 3 ton towing and gets around 9 ltrs / 100 kms. A mate of mine said he was using around 12.5 ltrs / 100 towing a car trailor.
The Navara was 10% cheaper than the hilux to.

    Snapper
I also have bought the D40 but in December and had the 2 recalls like arwetheryet, not that they were an issue, I have the 2.5, the reason for the different motors between the ST-X and the ST-R is that the X this built in Spain and the R is built in Japan, Spains had this engine for 2 years. I tow a 6m whittley and it does it with ease, not towing I get between 9.5 10lt, with the boat it runs at 17-19lt, Drove the hilux and for the extra $$$ its not worth it, the 6 speed manual is also handy when towing, the 60/40 back seat is very handy when camping and fishing for safe storage of equipment. Very happy do recommend.
