    ssangyong musso 4X4

Saw these at the EKKA Show this week.
Anyone have any experience, or know anything about them?
I think basically the old 5 cyl Mercedes diesel in them.
Look pretty flash inside - a Korean guy I saw looking at them told me they are the RR of 4X4 in his country.

Hopefully they have improved the old model had a lot of rear end trouble, both suspension and diff.

    And they have no resale.

I have 4 clients who have had them and have nothing nice to say and 1 who does, but I think he is in denial!!!!

The new utes look interesting buy Im too scared after the old Musso

Let me know how you go

    Cheers

Not planning on buying one - just keeping up with what's new.
I see the old Musso going very cheap 2nd hand.
Jeeps also have no resale I notice.

nobody doubts the Jeep brand for 4x4 ability or toughness. Their lack of resale is probably a combo of parts/service cost and fuel usage in big motors.

Agree that the Ssanyong range looks interesting, but so did Lada look like a cheap option about 30 years ago....

Yeah but what are they comparing them to?
Arn't all roads in Korea sealed?

    Re: ssangyong musso 4X4

I too saw these at the show and thought they were great value as compared to the other dual cab fourbies out there......I even rang around some dealers to get some firm prices.
I'm now convinced not to buy one. Dealers couldnt give me any idea of accessories, servicing, parts etc, thats if they even bothered to return my calls.
So I did a web search of Ssangyong....currently they have 4500 workers on strike in their assembly plant (2500 of these have been on strike for over a month) and only exported about 1800 cars total last fin year. Doesnt say alot about getting cars/parts down the track!
I even had a manager of the Ssangyong corporation give me a call pressuring me into buying a car.....then when I told him I wasnt interested, and I mentioned I was a bit concerned as to parts/warranty claims/customer service etc, he abused me over the phone! Unbelievable.
    Enough said.

    Re: ssangyong musso 4X4

I can remember talking to a sales guy years ago at the 4WD show when these things first appeared. Back then, before stability control etc, he told me that the only configuration with the petrol engine(it was a MB straight 6, 3.2L) would be an auto becuse the people(read fools) who bought one wouldn't be able to control the thing with a manual transmission, if it were to rain ...You still see a few of the older ones around occasionally
You have to guess that they must be OK as the company are still going despite the strikes....are Lada still going?

they originally had a merc symbol as part of their decalling years ago but merc objected as they felt it tarnished their name - happy to sell them the engines but don't make believe we have anything to do with the car as a whole was their stand.

Thanks for all the replies - I've done my own research and they are definitely off the list!
My old red rocket (1993 SWB Pajero) has over 200,000klm on it, so as much as I hate to do it... I have to start looking for a replacement.
The new Diesel Triton is high on the list, so is the Hilux.

the Navaras seem a decent car - why aren't they in the running Dave?

I guess with the new boat you are giving up beach fishing - or else you'd pick a landy .
