4WD Needed to tow my boat, advise please!!

Well the time has come when i will have to buy a more suitable car to tow my boat. My current car is only allowed to tow 1000kg, but my boat is 1300kg. As i'm not real flush with cash at the moment, i will have to sell my VL Calais to try to cover most of the cost of buying the 4wd. Before anyone ask's, there is now way i would be willing to tow the boat with the Calais, as i know it wouldnt be at the ramp when i returned.
I am looking at Mitsubishi Pajero models around 1992-1995, they are a 3.0 petrol litre engine, & are available as an auto or manual. I do not wish to use it offroad, just to tow the boat & the odd trip to the tip with my trailer, It will not be a daily driver.
Can people please give me their opinions on these vehicles.

I have attached a photo of the model i am looking at
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Nothing wrong with that model Pajero mate, the v6 does get a bit thirsty if you push it hard but they all do. Check out www.pajeroclub.com.au there is a heap of info there that will clue you into a Pajero and what things you may need to know.

Mark, A hilux dualcab 2.8 litre diesel was my first choice, but i just cant afford one, a mate has towed mine with his 2.4 litre hilux, it was just so gutless. How many km's do you get out of a tank?
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Mate i agree with the hilux piont, & it uses about 20L / 100k towing ..
thats why the new one will be turbo diesel. I've been stung by mitsubishi's, so my opinion is low on them... It's your money just spend it wisely. I know what its like to own a bad tow vehicle & too not have one
at all ..!! Best of luck choosing the right "1"

How far, how fast and what sort of terrain are some of the things to consider and of course budget. So it could be from a Tractor to GT ford , Diesel is the best in my mind if its not to do any off road stuff think light truck maybe, just a few thoughts.

Barry, All i would require it for is the odd trip down the Gold Coast or maybe Bundy. Most of the time i launch at Pinenba or Colmslie boat ramps. Speed limit is 100 km's, surely it could tow at that speed. Definatly not interested in off road adventures. They are also available in turbo diesel versions as well, i may be able to find one in my price range.

    Cheers,
    Andrew.

what about a hj75 or a hj60 with the diesel you get about 500k to the 70 litres. and its not too much money if you get an old good one.

Yeah ,HJ60, 5 speed 2h Diesel, not fast but heaps of pulling power , good price ,plenty of them around just give them the rustproof treatment and good servicing and they are a top truck.Yes I have one and have been in and away in all sorts of trucks and I feel for the money that they win hands down.

Andrew, i got the 95 Pajero 3.0ltr and also tow the V17L with it. I live in Canungra ( Goldie Hinterland ) and have to pull the boat up thru the mountains. Mate it does this with no probs. No land speed records broken but not a worry at all.

I have had it converted to gas as well, and find not a bit of power loss at all, and am extremely happy with it.

We just towed the camper trailer up to Inskip for a week and never missed a beat. Used from home to Gympie $27 in gas.

Brett, Sounds good to me, spoke to a couple of people & they agree the 1991-1997 Pajero's are great for this sort of work. I am taking the missus to look at the one i found in the photo (attached) tomorrow. It is a 95 GLS model, with all the good bits, no stupid sunroof though. I have managed to knock them down to $8000.00. We will be holidaying down the coast on the week before Christmas, maybe we can meet & take the boats out for a run.
