    go the commodore motor
should be a cheap conversion if you shop around and if you can get a con. kit
the grunt youll get should be plenty to tow a good size boat

but in saying this it might be cheaper to get yours rebuilt with a more torquey cam

the problem with some exchange engines they use some second hand parts that i would replace >

as they always say you get what you pay for

    Plat-a-puss....

    Words fail.....

Keep it Mitsi 3ltr, simply for your sanity.

Ring around the Mitsi dealers, and price new ones
    out of the crate...

    You may be surprised...

Agree with Harry, if you go a Holden one you will have to worry about wiring compatability and other similar issues.

Talk to the local mitsi wreckers and jump on a Pajero forum for info. If you really want another engine maybe a newer model paj engine.

Tired at 253,000 klms? MAte what have you done to it? . Lol I have a 3 ltr '93 Pajero as well and has just crossed the 350,000klms and it is not even hinting on getting tired. As I have said in other threads I have not even so much as replaced a cam belt in the poor thing yet although it is booked in to have that done on the 29th of this month. I have also recently thought of ways to get more grunt out of it when the time comes that the motor does show signs of needing a rebuild. Options I have come up with are either rebuild the existing engine with a more suitable cam, or maybe put the bigger 3.5 ltr Mitsubishi motor in (my wife has a '95 model with the 3.5ltr and it flies) or most expensive option was to rebuild existing motor and get it turbo charged. My main use would be for the loose sand on Fraser where at times I wish I had a bit more horsepower although I have never been bogged. Have to also agree with the boys and suggest abandoning the idea of the Holden engine. You would probably also have to go through the expense of changing over the computer system etc. Too much stuffing around for my liking.

hey poodroo hows it going , i have only owned the paj for about 1 yr now so cant give u any history on how it was treated i have been into pajero web sites before and they all agree that at about 250,000 the little 3lt gets tired .how does your 3.5 lt go on fuel ? is it better than the 3lt?i run a cold air snorkel(made it myself using plumbers pipe, will change to a 4inch aluminium 1 soon when i can find the material at right price) a finer filter(foam uni filter)and a hyclone fitted all these mods gave me more horse power and better fuel econ, recently towed my boat approx 310 km,up down hills with head wind(6.31km/ltr---17.84mpg--15.84lt/100km)boat is a 4.5 m c/c 2.2 m beam not sure on weight but its not lite 2 tow

The 3.5 ltr is definitely not as economical but I guess that is the price you pay when you go for more power. I must have a freak 3.0 ltr engine in my car because it is not using oil or dripping oil and as stated before it is still completely original even after clocking over 350,000 klms. I think I will keep it as a 3 ltr when the time comes but look into the possibility of turbo charging it. Regards,
