My bros and I went headed out of mooloolaba at 2.30 pm for an overnighter 65nmls NNE of mooloolaba. we were cruising along at 24 nkts and the weather was fine in close but by the time we were 45miles into it the seas were getting lumpy and dropped back to 20knts. on the edge of the shelf some of the bigger swells came through at 5meters high and were standing up a bit{thank god for our cat}. To our dissapointment the sounder was bare, so we decided to search back and forward to the hards were the waves were smaller. after 6hrs of driving we anchored on the northern end of the hards for the night. up at first light I floated a bait down and wham... after a short fight a snapper approx 8-9 kg was near the boat and snap busted me of just out of net range. We ended up nailing some much smaller snapper in the next couple of hrs. after 6.30 things were really quiet and was hard to get the fish to bite despite the many good shows on different spots. so we put in some more hrs searching and going wider.found some very promising ground in over 100mts of water which will get further attention at a later date back at mooloolaba at 2.30pm after 160nms of travelling.
There some expensive looking snapper there
Shame about the first one but it's usualy the way it goes.
First drop, big fish, loose it, spit the dummy!!
Sounds like you at least got a few good starting points for next time.
cheers birdy!
