    banks quickie

well, we havent fished the banks in over a year
and thought it was time for a change. had a few
things to do sat morning so had a rarther late start
and was on the water by about 10am.

was a nice swell running when we come out of the harbour
so we took our time and had a look at a few spots on the
way out. got to the outside edge of the banks after a couple
hours and found what we were looking for. snappa, snappa
and more snappa. most fish around the couple kilo range with
a few larger ones thrown in for value. reached our bag fairly
quick so we shot back into the centre for a look, not much
happening but managed a small aj which will be our test dummy
for the smoker. conditions were pretty yucky by this stage so we
headed for home. was back at the ramp by 6.30.

heard over the vhf that a game boat had a marlin on and the guy
trying to tag it got the cheek on his face slashed open by the marlin.
they were racing back in to take him to hospital, maybe jeffo no's
    more about it.
not to many photos this trip.
    cheers dale

    Re: banks quickie

Jeez I thought we had a good run of snapper down here, but that Barwon Banks has got to be the most consistant snapper reef on the east coast of Australia, if not the world!
It seems to cop a hiding from anglers yet consistantly produces the goods.
I will have to get up there one day-- Foxy!?
    Well done fellas.

    Geday Dale ,
I was wondering how you went
You still ended up with a good catch , sounds like it would have been a long night out there

    ROZ ,
    Rumour of another 1770 M & G , I'm pretty sure I'll be there .

    Re: banks quickie

Yeh Foxy, sounds good. I'm inbetween boats for the next ten days or so. I can drive pretty quick too!
With the weather so good at the moment I've even pulled the old " MONGREL" out of storage. Been working on it for two days to make it seaworthy again! Its been many years since it got wet but I'm confidant it will get me across the Bruns bar!
Cheers, I'm just a phone call away.
    Those reds sound good!
    Cheers
PS If its a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday I can pick Nugget up on the way up, as long as you dont put him onto some big amberjack! Otherwise he wont come!!

    snappa,Pete & Dale,

We are still trying to work out a date, seems as though we can't go six months without one at Agnes these days, the last one was a ripper. Looks like some time after easter......so far.

    will keep you informed.

    Re: banks quickie

Dale, Great haul of fish. Were the snapper out in the deep or did ya get them in closer. I'm glad I didn't have any bait on board yesterday or I think the deckies may have talked me into bottom bashing, and by the looks of it we would never have got back to trolling.

Mono, get in quick. The snapper usually taper off at the banks after January. Feb, Mar & Apr are generally hard work to find them. But who knows after the ripper season we have had this year.

    Cheers,

    Mark

    Re: banks quickie

Good to see you amongst em dale, it would be interesting to see some total catch figures from that reef on a wkend, the fish population is clearly out of control and needs more culling

    Re: banks quickie

Great haul Dale, We went to Caloundra Wide and got a few but nothiung like you got or like all the reports that are coming in from the Banks. DO you find the best results are on the Eastern side or Western and North or South. I have only been out there twice and both times we got very little and have been reluctant to go that distance again.
