Re: Love to post a report!

you try not going out for 2 months because of travel and repairs to boat. Then trip lined up to Mission Beach with family (staying on the beach - caravan park), NQ for the long weekend.

Friggin tropical low occurs with possible cyclone. Strong wind warning 35 kts, etc. so reluctantly last minute decide to leave boat at home rather than tow is 250kms on a potentiall very wet highway.

Arrive = Friday a bit rough and Saturday and Sunday like this photo - ALL DAY!! not happy

At the end of winter the eac ( east coast current) is along way wide of the coast this continues through november when the constant NW,North and NE winds keep it there and send it racing along its merry path usually in december the SE winds start. The affect of the SE wind is to hold up the current and push it towards the coast. This water is warm and clear and holds the fish we want to catch in summer Macs, tuna, billfish.
The current is best observed on satalite images and has up until now been very wide and heading south until it it is swept into a big eddy off South West Rocks where its running north at 2 knots. At south west rocks during november they were catching billfish and macs when all the game boys up this way were missing out. During summer we need the current and that nice warm clear water for the fishing to really fire IMHO.

    - many thanks for the info
    - please excuse more questions
    1. does the eac ( east coast current) run north to south??
    2. how /why does the constant NW,North and NE winds keep it offshore & the SE winds push it inshore?
    3. what satelite image sites do you suggest?

    thanks - MalM

    Mal.

The current runs north to south as far as why the se push it in i'm only guessing but it probably has to do with the friction of the wind on the water and constant se winds would slowly move it towards the coast. The northerly winds would push it south and as these winds tend to be nw-sw in the morning and ne in the afternoon it would not really have any effect on the current in relation to the coast. As i said i'm just guessing though but someone on this site will be better informed!

Try this web site for current info www.cmar.csiro.au/remotesensing/oceancurrents/
