    Friday Flat rock area

    Hi all
Took a Gamble on Friday and left late at 5am for Flat rock area for a quick
troll before the wind picked up.( Forecast not good )
Northern part of the SE passage was Lumpy as usual and this was on a dead low.
Started Trolling 5km from Flat rock ( yes i know the limits )
Joe Picked up a Yellow fin on the way to the Sevens did a few trolls and there was not much else around
Found some birds working inshore on the sheltered side and filled up with Watsons bonito mauling bait shoals, good size.
Inbetween were Mack tuna which we through back.
    Nnoooooo Spotties aaaaaaahhhhhhh those fillets
A few big COBIA made a brief and hurried entrance tried to get a bait to them but i was too slow.
Got a 150.00 fine no fire extinguisher on board ( say no more ).
    Good day out though

    Cheers mark

    Re: Friday Flat rock area

I'm confused the dpi web site lists flat rock as a yellow zone (conservation zone) and is therefore only closed to trawling, and yet it is ment to be a grey nurse protectiong zone. So what is it can you or cant you fish/troll flat rock.

    hi jeremy

ragingbull said they trolled 5 km fom flat rock. He does comment that he knows the limit.

I think you may have just misread it.

    cheers

    Re: Friday Flat rock area

Thats what i mean, what is the limit. the yellow zone extends 1.2km from flat rock (so raginingbull was well away from the yellow zone) but you are still alowed to troll and fish in yellow zones. but where does the grey nurse protection zone start? I can't find any info on the dpi web site that suggests that there is any area around flat rock when any form of recreational angling is not permited.

The patrols have been in force so best ya know, check the dpi site the gps mark central to the 1.2km permiter is on there and its def a no fishing or spearing area.

The Oz record for mangrove jack was taken from flat rock but now it is banned from spearing. That grey nurse shark stuff is a load of crap they are only there for part of the year apoparently. I hate cheap arse research our govt does we need a real study
