    Wide cal 20/2

Left from m/bar for a quick day trip out to wide caloundra this morning at 5.
conditions were good for the run out there and it wasn't long before the sounder was tuned in and we were sounding around. found a nice show just on the shallow side of the ledge and decided to give it a go.
it started off slow with a couple of nice pearlies and snapper and after we'd drifted through the mark we did some more scouting around. Found some good shows but nothing happening on them,
so it was back to the first bit of bottom to give it another shot in the afternoon.
And sure enough there were still fish showing on the sounder, threw the pick and started to get the odd fish here and there. Got a nice snapper on a plastic after i dropped the first one with damien doing well on the baits.(or lack of them...the pillys were s@#t house 3/0 gang job)
can't wait to get back there with some decent bait and give it a real go!
anyway here's a couple of pics

Not a huge catch but it was fun finding a bit of new ground and leaving from somewhere a bit different.

    Thunderbird:

Heard your boat was missing from the yard yesterday - thought you might have snuck out for a sneaky fish. Good to see you got onto a few fish.
What are you doing the weeks either side of Easter, 3 boats would cover a lot of ground east of Fitzroy...

Fred Nice to meet you and good to hear you got into some fish as well...Where's the pics?
Vertico Havn't seen pearlies that dark in colour before. we didn't bother keeping any under 39cm.
    Pete cheers mate!
Dennis it sounds tempting, I'll see if my work roster will let me, and then there's always the weather....I'd say it'll be another last minute call to go or not.
Rob It's not one of those sticks but just a knife handle. good to see you got into a few over the weekend with foxy.
    Cheers birdy..

    Re: Wide cal 20/2

Mal the plastic was atomic 4 blue pearl pepper, I'd lost the first and only jig head the drop b4 so i just had to settle for a ball sinker on the top of a 6/0 or 7/0 vmc hook. if you're going to buy some just get the biggest lead head you can for that size plastic, it helps when you're fishing deep with them.58-60 mtrs. I was casting out as far as i could, waiting for it to hit the bottom and then gave it a twitch, twitch, wind. I am far from experianced with these things (i've only used them twice and both times a good snaps has come to the surface) so maybe you might be better off asking another member about the nitty gritty of fishing with plastics. Aquarius, from his reports uses them all the time in the bay and i'm sure there are others on the site that will point you in the right direction.

Vennie.. how the hell are ya? good to hear from you! I trust you're doing everything in island time now post some pics up on here of you're fishing trips now that you've got the computer going,(i hope you don't have to peddle and type) I'm sure everyone would love to hear and see how it's done in the torres straight.
    Cheers Birdy....
