    Caloundra offshore Sat

headed out through the bar around 5 am Sat. Bit breezy! The BOM had got it right Had another club boat following me out through the bar for the first time too.

Could only manage around 10 knots, so dropped some lures in and managed to get my decky his first mack tuna of around 3 kg on a Halco laser pro 160. Got out to the reef in about 30 minutes and found heaps of bait, but it was spread out over the bottom. Didn't have any success trying to jig some livies, so had to resort to the dead baits.

There were a few sweetlip around and the odd doggie. I got one nice sweetie around 2.5 kg up to the surface only to have the line break at the knot (abraded on teeth?). Anyway it was floating upside down on the surface for a few seconds about 2 m away and out of net range and I started to remove my shirt, but it recovered and dived back down. Not to worry, I got another a bit bigger up about 30 minutes later. Went 3.1 kg and I will be getting a photo to post later today. Deckie managed a nice litte parrot in between burleying sessions!

Had a couple of hits on the pillies but wasn't able to hook up. But the boys in the other boat managed 3 average schoolies on live baits and pilchards.

The surface was pretty much dead. Came back in around midday on the last of the run out. Interesting that some seagully were diving just inside the bar and picking up something. Might have been prawns or hardiheads?

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the post. Photographs are always fantastic but it is always good to get the information.

Sometimes we all get a bit spoilt with our digital cameras and forget there are still some of the old film camers around.

They can cost a bit of money to get the photographs developed.

    Thanks again for the post.

Was watching the tuna or mackerel go nuts at the tide line on the outgoing tide in the afternoon.
