Left homke in the wee small hours and picked up Pete (Grand Marlin) on the way through. On the water just before 0600, but with the BOM still calling for a 2.5-3 metre swell, it may have been a bit touch-&-go, although the amount of trailers in the carpark at the ramp indicated things may just be OK. Round Point Cartwright and all was well with just a very gentle roll on, the mighty V-Sea was pointed in the direction of the Banks and away we went. Upon arrival, there were only a couple of other boats around and down went the first baits. Pete pulls a nice Pearlie, I get an undersize Red Emperor and I also miss a big hit on the floater. With the lightish SE wind, the gentle rolling swells, the day before the New Moon, the good barometer, the good first drop and the recent shocking weather, it was looking good for a good day. But, alas, it was not to be; we hunted high and low and just couldn't raise a decent fish for love or money. We fished deep and shallow, light and heavy, we had the best baits (big Pillies, Bonito and big Squid Tails) and we couldn't kick a goal. There were plenty of fish on the sounder, but they just would not play the game. We did get a few more undersize Red Emperor, small Red Throats were in plague proportions, we got a few undersize Squire and there were big Iodine Bream everywhere, but I did manage to score a Snapper of about 5kg, so there is still fish for a feed. We came home in the afternoon totally dejected, with vows of giving this place one more chance (as if!!!). Still, your worst day's fishing is better than your best day's working, so it's back to the drawing board yet again.
Cheers,
NICK.
