Managed to con the better half into a sportfishing adventure during our recent honeymoon in Fiji. The day, like all days in the Fijian islands, started out as a post card. A zephyr of a breeze, no swell and bright sunshine. Left the Coral Coast with our guide aboard a 6m Fraser centre console and headed straight through the reef channel and set a spread of lures within 10 minutes . Another honeymooning couple also joined us.
Our target species for the day were wahoo and walu (spaniards).
We trolled up and down the coast for almost two hours before we saw any action and a nice mahi mahi climbed all over the long rigger skirt. Gav, the other newlywed, took strike and battled for almost 15 minutes before subduing a nice fish.
Not sure if the better half will ever come trolling again because we never turned a reel for the rest of the day. Still, it was great fun.
Cheers
Paul
