Swains 27/01 - 04/02
I just spent a week up on the Swains and I can say I will be back at sometime again soon.
We went out on the Grayscout, no doubt a few of you know this boat. Well, i'm glad it was fairly big (120ft) as the ride out and the ride in were pretty rough. Apart from these two trips the weather was sensational, pretty lucky that the cyclone moved away just as we got out there. Anyway a few of the more experienced guys reckon the fishing was a little below par but me and mate (both first trip out) had a ball.
Day 1 - fished a reef that these guys always stop at first. Was a very slow day, still a bit sloppy. Many guys reckon it was one of the slowest days for a very long time.
Day 2 - Moved up to a different reef where things started to heat up a bit. Caught a mixed bag of trout, lippers and parrot, trevally, triggerfish, shark, cobia.
Day3-6 - With improving weather the call was made to head to the favourite trout area. Apparently the aear is a lot more exposed (not fringing reef) so it doesn't get hit by the live trout guys. Anyway over the next few days we pulled in a fair few trout. The size was average with no real large specimens coming aboard but there was a fairly steady stream of fish coming up. At this spot we really targeted trout but we also got lippers, tomato cod, one solitary red and two barramundi cod that went straight back. We saw some big sharks out here too.
I managed to get the biggest trout of the trip at 7.9lbs. Biggest and only red was 11.2lbs. Baby compared to others seen on this site. We also caught a few spanish mack around the 20lbs mark and some very nice cobia.
All up it was great trip, and am already looking forward to the next trip, whenever that may be. I think we counted about 27 species cuaght foir the trip. The boat was great, crew were great and we had a good bunch of blokes on board, which always helps.

Lone_wolf is twas approx $1600 and this included everything. Tackle, bait, etc. One thing for sure, you will never go hungry on the boat, think i put on about 2kgs.
