Headed out for a fish with my usual fishing partner JB. The weather forecast was for 10-15kts, and we hoped for a nice run out to the fishing grounds. Before I put the boat in the water there was a little breeze in the air and my hopes went out the window. The wind was from the S/E and the swell had no direction, so it was a fairly bumpy trip out.
We caught a couple of fish before the sun was up, but the fishing really didn't turn on till light. It was then all hands on deck. The snapper were coming up fast and furious and plenty of quality amongst them. For the first few hours we found it very difficult to anchor as the wind and current had us all over the place. We were blown off the fish and all we could get on to were small pearlies. We pulled the anchor up and started to do a bit of drifting. This was when the fishing heated up. The baits were hardly hitting the bottom and getting smashed. Almost very drop resulted in a hook up.
By 10am we had a few scud clouds come through and bring the wind and rain, and this was the sign to pack up and head in. We began heading back and the rapping began. The wind picked up to about 20+ knots and swell came from no where. It was a slow trip home, having to sit on 6-8kt for a fair part of the trip. It was a great feeling going through the bar.
Good trip and plenty of photos to follow...
