    Tweed Monsters!

    Hi All

Had an awesome day out on the water Monday. Left the ramp just as the sky was starting to light up. After making a quick stop off to get some livies we headed straight out to the deep jigging marks. We started jigging straight away and Kev hooked up to a good fish second drop. It turned out to be a big Cobe off about 15kgs his PB Cobe and first one on a jig.We had a mate from South Africa on the boat and wanted to shoe him how the jigging worked and he couldnt believe how the fish ate the 400g Chaos jig no probs. One more rat king and a bonito followed on the jigs and that was it. Couldnt believe it cos there had to be more fish there. Out came the livies and the rods started bending. Every livie got eaten and we got a variety of Kings , Samsons and Ambers. No more lives no more bites.
We decided to head a bit shallower and started on the 36's. I rigged up my light spin rod with 20lb braid that I use for flicking small slugs to do a bit of float lining. Allan went down with a bait and was instantly in to a good fish. We called it for all kinds until a huge cod popped up next to the boat. Beautiful colours and it had someone elses hook in its gob. By this time I had the spin rod rigged and floated out a slimey fillet. I felt a tap and then the fish started to pull line so i tightened up and set the hook. Holy Crap did it take off at speed. I tried my best on the light gear to keep the fish away from the bottom but it went were it wanted to. Luckily I never got bricked and the fish slugged it out for about 30minutes before we saw colour. A beauty of a King popped up and after several attemps got the lip grippers in. I couldnt believe that the fish hadnt done me over on the light gear. A few pics and she swam away to terrorize some other unsuspecting floatliner. We headed home from there as the wind was getting stronger. A good ending to a top day

That is awesome Rod. . . . Very well done.

That kingie must have been a awesome fight on the light gear, and that you did not get bricked is something in itself.

How big was the kingie?, because it looks very good.

Not sure mate it was in top condition but i would say about 16 or 17kg. I got one last year of 15kg on spin gear and this one seemed a bit better.
