Fished a couple of reefs in the vicinity of Cape Moreton courtesy of a very generous friend's GPS marks last night. Arrived at about 5.30pm to find perfect conditions. We fished until about 8.30pm when the wind got up a little. Plenty of squire on every drop and some good snapper amongst them. We also caught a yellow tail king and a few Pearl Pearch to add some variety.
I can't recommend highly enough using very light jig sticks, sinkers and braid to make traditional bottom bouncing a lot more fun. Yes you're in trouble when hit by a decent samson or the like but the other 50 fish you'll catch in between are a hell of a lot more fun. We kept some of the snapper and the pearlies for dinner tonight and left for home with the fish still biting and getting bigger!
They are respectful thoughts when you leave fish for others and just take what you need. There are plenty of us doing that too. Some because they want to and others because thats all they can get. Either way, it's still good to hear you didn't just bag out on heaps of species.
Davo1, I just got in tonight after jumping aboard a mates boat instead of my own - predominantly to go to a few of his marks. Did OK until the wind picked up and a noah or two were swimming around below us. Some pretty good squire, Pearlie and a great Yellowtail King. Let quite a few squire go back. Nice feed for all without being excessive (no need to freeze - kept just enough to eat quickly). And picked up the crab pots on the way home. Hoping the lead up to the next full moon will prove as good if not better.
