    Don't it break your heart

Went out to the Rock Cod shoals yesterday. What a great day. Had a pod of six dolphins bow breaking the haines out like six grey horses. Glorious dayon the water, wouldnt have mattered if we didnt get many fish and we didnt Six and a half Tuskies,a collared bream and a nice hussar. Hope the old noah appreciated the other half of what was a really nice tuskie. Oh I forgot about this little bruiser. a 9.5 lb (4.5 kg ) CATFISH. Rotten #bl#%dy mongrel. Dont it break your heart. Just when I thought the reefies were coming on the bite.
Only wish I had the camera to take a shot of the dolphins leaping out the water an arms reach from the bow. Lifes still good even without a full creel

Really they arent too bad a chew. They aren't weedy like those caught in the upper estuary systems. I actually took it into work where one of the guys is going to cook it up for lunch tomorrow. Done in a beer batter. Its just that when you travel 20 miles out to the reef you dont expect to catch a bloody catfish after a great fight. These apparently are a reef catfish so someone tells me. Slightly different to the other catfish caught in the rivers. She was fully roed up. Put on a great fight for the Mrs though. She was hoping for a really decent red throat.

Good on yer mate, it's nice just to get out there.

Yes, you're right, they're not bad chewin' when they're fresh run from salt. The furthest out I've caught one is The Cape. They'll be coming on any time now round about Sandgate and there's some real horses amongst 'em. They're all pretty much roed up at this time and I'm wondering if the males don't come in 'cause I've rarely caught one without roe before December.

sure its a cattie looks like a putty nosed samon, the eye seens to close to the nose for a cattie maybe just the angle

A mate just cooked up the Cattie for the boys at work. Made up a batter with soda water instead of beer, seasons it and crumbles a bit if dry biscuit through the batter and shallow fries it in small bite size pieces. Yeah Not too bad. I dont think too many of the blokes will be throwing them in the Crab pots in future.
Thought I might buy myself on of those mincers for the side of the boat cause I think I'm turning Asian
